Disc Golfing A Great Family Recreation!
50What is Disc Golf?
Disc Golfing is a sport played similar to regular "Ball Golf" but using Discs. The discs are thrown from a 'tee-off box' to a basket (hole). The basket (shown below) is a typical disc golf target.
As in regular golf you count the number of swings it takes for you to travel between the tee-off box and the basket. You follow the layout around a course keeping track of your score. Disc golf is typically played in parks or wooded areas.
Easy to learn
Disc golfing is super easy to learn. You simply need a disc and a will to throw. Most people have at thrown a disc at least once in their lifetime. Disc golfing takes this same throw and makes it a single player game rather then a two person game.
Once you get more advanced you can add other throws such as the flick or hammer. As well, you can learn tips and tricks to throw into the wind or downwind.
You can read a TON of great information on how to throw at various websites. I like www.dgcanada.com and www.discraft.com as two sources of throwing tips.
Very Low Cost
The final great thing about disc golfing is that it's very low cost. Typically your only cost for disc golfing is your discs. Discs cost anywhere between $15 - $40 depending on various factors. However, a typical starter disc would cost approximately $15.
