Disciplining Your Cat, Tips On How To Keep It Under Control
81Discipline your kitten for long lasting effect.
Cat discipline can turn into a some what difficult matter if you don’t start early. If you can teach them as kittens they will be better behaved and happier adult cats. So where do we go wrong? A lot of people that have cats chose a cat because they are much easier to take care of then dogs. You only really need to feed it and clean out their litter box every so often. This is to a degree true; I do however think that it is important to bond with your cat. They need a lot of love, praise, and attention.
For humans this all makes sense, you don’t share your toys with your friends so it gets taken away. This means nothing to a little kitten; they’ll just find something else to play with and won’t think twice about why the toy was taken away from them in the first place. Naturally their mother won’t ever shout at them, or put them in time out when they’ve something wrong; when we do it will only frighten them.
I looked at what our kittens mum did to them when they were being naughty. She held their necks and pushed them down until they gave her a submitting little meow. They toddled away and found something else to do, until the next time they misbehaved and the same thing happened. She also gave them a lot of love and attention.
I guess if we stop humanising the kittens, it is easier to train them. If we praise their good actions by petting them, playing with them and give them lots of attention they will learn faster. In the world of a domestic cat being praised is, being petted, fed, played with, and noticed, getting a treat and being fussed over.
They will learn both ways but if you frighten them by yelling at them, smacking them, or putting them in a separate room chances are one day your cat may decide to find a home where people don’t frighten them.
