Oriental holidays are the newest flavour to hit the taste buds of the seasoned traveller.

The allure of the untouched rainforest terrains along with the warm and friendly invitations of the local people is too hard to resist. The discount hotel reservations in Samui is the icing on the cake. Usually travellers flock to the more commercialised island of Phuket on the west coast of Thailand. However, if you would prefer less made up and more natural territory, Samui is an excellent option. Koh Samui is the third largest island of Thailand and is virtually and relatively untouched. You can get an insight into what probably the Garden of Eden must have looked like - Samui is that magnificent.

Samui as an island is small - it would take you just about an hour to go around it by car. Its neighbouring islands add the extra zing to the holiday. Koh Pha-ngan is famous for its biggest all-night full moon beach parties complete with music and food. The archipelago of Ang Thong Marine National Park is absolutely dazzling with its lush green forests, coconut palm fringed beaches and sapphire waters full of colourful coral reefs. The phallic rock formation is very peculiar to this area and is often a perfect background to Hollywood flick action sequences.

Actually the entire island was an isolated habitation with very little contact with the outside world. It was only in 1973 that an actual road was constructed around the circumference of the island and it is only after this road that cars were introduced in koh Samui. Previously, to go from one side of Samui to the other involved a day-long trek through the dense rain forest. The international airport, now essential for the blooming tourism industry, first came up in 1989.

It is not very difficult getting into Samui. Once you reach Thailand, you can take any of the Bangkok airways flights into Samui. Or for the more sea sure folks, the steamers give you the opportunity to glide into the docks dotted with boats with the palm trees for a backdrop. In fact during the annual regatta, participants come from all over to sail their yachts in this festive event. There is a whole lot of adventure sports on the island including Thai boxing, snorkelling, deep sea scuba diving and many other water based activities. For the foodies, the cuisine is unlimited. There is a whole lot of sea food to choose from. The spicier, the better according to the locals.

If you are planning a trip in the tourist season i.e. April to November, then it is a good idea to compare all the rates online and find the best ones you can. You can find some of the very extravagant villas at Chewang beach but if you would rather prefer discount hotel reservations in Samui, then go for slightly less developed beach like Maenam beach. All the vast expanses of the many beaches offer the similar seclusion which makes Samui the perfect place to unwind.

All said and done, for those seeking adventure as well as for those wanting a lazy, laid back vacation, Samui - The Island Of Coconuts is one of the best options. Make it your next vacation destination and don't forget to look for discount hotel reservations in Samui.
