Where are you planning to go this winter?

Vacation is nearby and you are thinking of a tour. However, it is very difficult this year. The entire globe is facing economic meltdown following American recession. All Tom Dick and Harry are in problem with their mortgage, cash and credit. You may have a fear of unemployment or job loss. In this particular situation, it is very difficult to plan a tour of your dream place.

Normally we plan a distant trip of our choice. Americans plan for a trip to European or Asian countries. English thinks of a tour to Africa or Canada. Japanese go out for Australia, France or US. An Indian may like a trip to Los Angeles, Geneva or Mauritius. We generally think of a tour to foreign countries. Some times we plan for a distant place in our own country too.

However, all are difficult this season. You have to pay a lot for airfare, train or bus ticket. In addition, of course, there are bills of hotel, food, shopping and what not. This may be a never-ending list of payments. You have been managing all these since many years but what about today? Your credit card may not support this year!

So what to do? Are you thinking of canceling your trip? Do you like to suppress your emotions? Do you want to say sorry to your children? The situation this year suggests that.

Disgusted?

How to be hopeful during this tough time?

Is there any way to make a trip very very cheap? Can you plan an economic tour that does not require an air ticket or booking a cruise? A trip that is well within the means of your pocket yet enjoyable.

Yes, you can do this. I have a unique idea for you.

Think of a place near by. There may be a beautiful place in your near vicinity that is a tourist place. A spot where many foreigners are coming to witness its beauty! There may be a place that has found its place in world’s tourist map. It is quite possible that you have not gone to that place. You may have ignored it. This happens with every one.

Take an enjoyable yet economic tour

Let me disclose a personal secret. Hawamahal is a monument in Jaipur. It is an icon of Jaipur city. Many times Jaipur is symbolized with Hawamahal. Millions of tourists have been coming here to witness the beautiful architecture of the palace. It is just half a mile away from my residence and I have never been there! I have passed by the monument thousands of times but never been inside.

Surprising! But true.

(I have posted some videos about Jaipur. There are links to articles above. Some are in the link section. I added all these to give an idea about Jaipur, the Pink city. Jaipur is also known as Emerald city and Paris of India. View the videos and hubs and  enjoy!)

You may choose Jaipur as your destination.

This is the right time to make a trip there in your near viscinity. You may discover that it is too beatifull to ignore. You may be astonished with your idea. You may think why were you not there so far.

It is better to think of the same right now. Go there and sit under a huge tree. Enjoy a stream of river small yet beautiful or a colorful flower that you have ignored so far. Just watch a hillock that needs your attention. You have ignored it because of the Himalayas, Alps or Mt. Fuzi. Go to a temple, church or mosque nearby that is so peaceful. You may rediscover charming birds, jumping kangaroos, playing kids of deer or velvet grass.

Over all cost of the trip will be negligible. You need not an air ticket. There will be no airport tax or visa fee. You will save a lot on train or bus fares. You need not to book a cruise. You may take home cooked food to avoid some extra expenses. A trip to near by destination will also help you saving a lot in shopping.

What are you thinking now? Get ready to take the tour and enjoy this winter.

Interesting thoughts, Jyoti, however, my traveling is limited to how far my feet or bicycle can carry me! I do drive to the nearest town once a week to buy a few groceries, but that's about it! Still, for those who can go somewhere - good advice! :)

Well from Perth it would have been cheaper to fly to Asia for the holidays - instead we are taking the expensive option and drviing to Adeliade and returning on the train - the train fares (2 adults + car) is more than return return fares to KL!

Dear Jyoti,

Wonderful idea. We normally forget the near and dear. We forget the fragrance of a flower near by.

You have hit the nails on its head.

I will certainly love to visit some areas in near vicinity and re-discover beauty of the place.

Thanks for a fascinating article.

Thumbs up:
