Beat Cold Sores-Naturally
Many people experience the unpleasantness and trauma of cold sores every year with sometimes two or three outbreaks although many more is possible. Many people become infected initially during childhood through being kissed by an infected person. The virus lies dormant and fortunately, only about a third of those who are infected, develop cold sores in later years although around 8 in10 people carry the Herpes Simplex virus with them.
Cold sores are embarrassing, unsightly and painful, and although they may not be life threatening, they do have an adverse affect on people's day-to-day lives. The winter season is historically the time when people seem to suffer the most from cold sores, February and March are the worst months but there can be many triggers such as stress, emotional exhaustion, menstruation, cold weather, pregnancy and even dental treatment.
Once the virus has been transferred, it would appear that both emotional or physical stress can be a trigger and if the immune system is impacted, it simply is unable to fight off the virus. Early signs are a tingling or burning feeling at the side of the mouth, and this is then followed up by weeping blisters before the sore eventually dries up and becomes a scab.
Cold sores (HSV-1) are closely related to the genital herpes virus (HSV-2) and as such, are highly contagious. Hands should be washed frequently to avoid the virus coming into contact with the eyes or to the genital area. Permanent damage can be experienced to vision if the virus does manage to enter the eyes.
There are many natural remedies to help overcome or alleviate the symptoms of cold sores, although no one main cure has been established. Keeping the immune system topped up is extremely beneficial and using Echinacea and Zinc can do this.
