My Quest for the Best Dish Network Deal

About four months ago I moved into an apartment complex where, get this, I couldn’t get cable. I think it had something to do with some arrangement the management had made with this kind of glorified over-the-air provider that was “sort of” cable but not quite. (I can’t explain it, I just know it was terrible).

So after a few weeks of dealing with the unheard of misery of being limited to watching about five channels (and two of them were PBS), I got fed up and did a little research.

Turns out that, even though I couldn’t get cable, there was no prohibition against getting Dish Network.

So that decision was easy.

The next one was hard.

Dish Network is unique in that there are literally hundreds of places you can go to get service. Most of them, by the way, are awful.

I found a few that weren’t, and I’ll get to those in a second. But you have to be careful. I mean seriously, do you want some “technician” from Mabel's Satellites 'n' Stuff coming to your home to set up your service?

Me either.

Bottom line? If you’re all gung-ho about shopping around for Dish, just be aware that it’s probably going to be a nightmare if you do it the way most people do it.

So with all that choice, how do you find the best Dish Network deal?

You can do what I did, which is to basically spend 100 hours or so online asking around, or calling them yourself – and wading through about five layers of operators before you get to the ONE person who can truly tell you what’s what -- to make sure you don’t get screwed.

Or you can do the smart thing and find the one or two sites that cut through all the BS and just give you the best deals right upfront.

One of the best ones I found like that is right here (click on the link). By the way, they also cover Direct TV, so if you’ve been thinking about them, you can get the 411 on them there too.

But there are others, so let’s get to those.

One of the dirty little secrets no one will ever tell you about ordering Dish is that you will almost always – and I mean maybe 95% of the time – get the best deals if you stay off the phone and order online.

No one wants to pay operators anymore, so the company basically rewards you if you help save them that expense.

Now, Dish Network of course makes it easy to do that. But there is one ultra-important thing you should remember.

Skip the homepage and go right to where the best deals are!

Let me repeat that. If you go to Dish’s homepage and expect to find the best deals right off the bat, you probably won’t.

It’s like walking into a car dealership and paying sticker price on the first car you see without ever looking around the lot and trying to make a deal.

Doesn’t make much sense, does it?

So what do you do? You go right to the page where they “hide” the best deal they’re offering at the moment. (Click on the link to see what it is right now.)

On that page, everything you need to know is right there, so you don’t even have to worry about ever picking up the phone.

However…

If for some reason you’re one of those people who absolutely has to make a transaction like this while talking to a real person, there is a way around all the nonsense and multiple layers of flunkies I had to deal with.

I found this place (click on the link – I know, I sound like a broken record) that actually wasn’t bad at all. I still ordered online, but if I had ordered over the phone it would have probably been though these guys.

So that’s basically it.

It’s not rocket science. But it is a total hassle if you try and do it without any guidance.

Hope that helps!
