Current Iranian leaders move into a dangerous era: clerics may become an endangered species in Iran and political assassinations will become the order of the day if the will of the people continues to be suppressed.

13 June 2009 - Is anyone surprised at the election outcome in Iran? Here in America we sure understand what it is to be cheated of an election. The Republicans did it in 2000 and 2004. It is only a matter of time before information begins to leak out demanding an investigation. Former VP Cheney thinks he burned or effectively buried all the damaging information. Frankly, for someone who lies that much on a daily basis there is no way for him to keep up with his own enormous paper trail.

Besides, never underestimate the various "little people" who work anonymously in large government offices. You know the kind of people that a lot of top-secret and important information passes through their hands daily for processing. These people always go unnoticed by the power elite who are dismissive and disdainful of them. Look out, Cheney, and Bush, sooner or later some of those little people are going to bite you back, perhaps ferociously. Time will tell, no matter how many deals you think you have cut with the current administration. The truth has a way of refusing to be denied and always comes to light.

America

When Americans were lied to and cheated out of their own democratic elections, the anger and resentment grew so loud that change came. Bush and Cheney are lucky to have stayed out of jail. Had a Republican won the masses would have been out for blood this time. We are a civilized country – but only up to a point. Besides, we all paid more in federal, state and city taxes under the Republicans (who always claim it’s the other guy who will raise your taxes when it’s really them) than under any Democrat. How long do you think the masses would tolerate that burden before serious violence broke out?

America has long been a country divided between two mindsets: Loyalists to the Crown and the Revolutionary Rabble. Today the Loyalists’ descendants are the Republicans and the Revolutionaries’ descendants are the Democrats. The same struggle for power to be consolidated with one King, or power to be shared by the people with its leaders, plays out today centuries later.

Iran

Iran is experiencing a similar struggle for power. Harsh leaders never endure; just ask Saddam Hussein of Iraq. His was hardly a pretty or honorable demise. He died harshly as he killed others so harshly. Today’s Iranian leaders are more foolish than ever. All they have done is harden the world’s will against them. Now no one trusts them. Expect China, Russia, Israel and the West to unite against them. They have also inadvertently raised President Obama’s profile as a stark contrast, making American style democracy more attractive than ever.

Harsh Leadership Brings Unintended Consequences

The current Iranian leaders of Ahmadinejad, the harsh petty clerics and this fearful politically foolish Supreme Leader all have deluded themselves into the belief they can squash dissent and control the populace. Good luck; it will never succeed. When the will of the people is so cruelly oppressed for decades like in Iran then it will develop a more violent outlet. If Iran continues on this North Korean style track of cavalier “leadership” they will find themselves looking down the barrel of an assassin’s gun. It will be a homegrown domestic terrorist hell bent on freeing their country of tyranny. America won’t have to lift a finger; the Iranians will free themselves.

Already Ahmadinejad has taken prisoner the opposition leader. He claims it is about a traffic violation. Since when is a traffic violation punishable by house arrest for an undetermined time? Nonsense; it’s all a lie and a poorly played one at that. Nobody believes them to be telling the truth: about the true results of the election or the fate of the opposition leader. They announced they had won the election within hours of closing the polls. Funny thing, they were all paper ballots and there is no way those ballots could be all counted properly in less than three days or more.

Killing or Imprisoning the Opposition a Bad Choice

Sad to say, these ruthless leaders in Iran are about to make the mistake of their miserable lives. If they decide to kill the opposition leader Mousavi they will only make him a martyr to the people and their cause. It will also harden the opposition will to new heights previously unmeasured. Clerics in Iran could become an endangered species if they don’t play their political cards well and grave diggers will be swamped with overtime work. Perhaps a new Iranian Revolution has begun but with unintended consequences.

Expect the Unexpected: A Woman Will Rise

If these harsh dictators continue to oppress the population, expect the unexpected. The young, the educated and women will no longer be denied. It has reached the point that Iran will experience a brain drain and a youth drain; they are leaving to live elsewhere in peace. Those that cannot leave will fight for freedom.

When situations are this severe always expect the unusual and the unexpected that will overpower like a tsunami wave. A woman will rise as an opposition leader and be quite effective in governing the country to a better standing in the world. How apropos would that be? A woman will lead the former Persian Empire out of the destructive mindset of the twelfth century into today’s reality. Our heart-felt prayers are with the Iranian people, especially the women, fighting for their freedom and the human dignity to be called a first class citizen in their own country.

As a Social Issues Poet these political situations touch me deeply. Months ago, long before this situation came to international notice, I wrote a poem about how it is perceived when humanity uses their free will in a destructive manner. It’s interesting to note how this small universal example dovetails with this larger world event: When The Angels Cry For Us.
