Disney Movies Based on Books
69Disney Movies Based on Books Starting with A
Many movies are commonly known to be based on books, but researching Disney movies recently I was surprised to learn that many more were based on books than I originally thought. Below are the Disney movies that start with letter A I know of that are based on books and a little info on what they are based off of.
The Absent-Minded Professor - This 1961 film is based on a short story called "A Situation of Gravity" written by Samuel W. Taylor. The later sequel 1963 Son of Flubber and the 1997 remake called Flubber can also be considered based on the story.
The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin - This 1966 movie is based on the book called By the Great Horn Spoon! by Sid Fleischman.
The Adventures of Huck Finn - This 1993 movie is based on Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad - This 1949 film has two stories connected. The first about Ichabod is an interpretation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving and The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.
Aladdin - This 1992 movie is loosely based on the Aladdin tales from the Arab folklore One Thousand and One Nights. The sequels The Return of Jafar and Aladdin and the King of Theives can also be considered loosely based on those tale with the King of Theives one putting Aladdin in the place of Ali Babba in one of the stories from One Thousand and One Nights.
Alice in Wonderland - This 1951 movie is based on the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass books written by Lewis Carroll.
The Apple Dumpling Gang - This 1975 movie is based on the book of the same name by Jack Bickham. The 1979 movie The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is also based on the book, although I think it is more loosely an extension of it than the first, but I am not really sure.
Around the World in 80 Days - This 2004 film is kind of loosely based on the book of the same name by Jules Verne. This is one I know from personal experience is not much like the book, as it has a lot of changes, but it seems it was purposely done to make it more of a comedy.
