Do Acai Detox Xtreme Diet Pills Work?
83There's been a lot of buzz around the antioxidant powers of acai berry supplements over the last few years. Riding the publicity wave, suddenly advertisements for acai pills are cropping up everywhere... too many different companies to count.
Acai Detox Xtreme is a weight loss product that's garnering special attention these days. But does Detox Xtreme work? Will it burn fat quickly and give you the six-pack abs you see in the "after" photos on all those sales pages?
What is Acai Anyway?
What is commonly called the "acai berry" is the fruit of the acai palm, a palm tree native to Central and South America. It contains high levels of antioxidants, which are important to disease prevention and treatment in the human body. Recently, there's been a sudden explosion in the popularity of this particular source of antioxidants, with claims that acai berry can improve digestion, sleep, heart health, skin, and sexual performance -- and help you lose weight and build muscle, faster than you could possibly do on your own. In our diet-obsessed culture, it's no surprise that the last of these is the one most people care about, and the one that gets the most attention in advertising for acai products.
Acai And Weight Loss
The buzz over acai seems to have started when Oprah's Dr. Oz mentioned it's antioxidant benefits on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He said nothing about weight loss, but just as in the case of Oprah's one comment about drinking tea in the evenings spawned the wuyi tea frenzy, diet marketers jumped on the statement and took it out of context to apply it to their own product.
The Oprah Show's lawyers are looking into alleged statements made by supplement companies that imply Dr. Oz recommended acai for weight loss, or their product specifically. Dr. Oz himself, in an interview with ABC news, corrected the idea that he was specially endorsing acai: "Acai seems to be as good as any other [good food], not better," he said. "Another example of a wonderful food."
There are currently no controlled studies connecting acai supplements to any of the purported benefits that brands like Acai Detox Xtreme claim. The FDA has not evaluated any of the products for safety or efficacy. Basically, right now it's a free-for-all. A closer look at any one of the websites selling acai weight loss products demonstrates this beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Acai Detox Xtreme: A Case Study
There are countless examples out there, but one highly popular site marketing AcaiDetox Xtreme and AcaiBurn Xtreme is "Pete Gets Ripped." This site is nothing more than an affiliate page in (a very thin) disguise. The internet is full of these sites--pages that individual people set up to direct customers to a company, for a portion of the sales. Obviously, if you're trying to make money from something, it makes sense to speak highly of it. This means you have to take the site with a grain of salt right off the bat. Not to mention the red flag that should go off in your head when you see before and after photos where the heads are cut off or faces blurred out.
Once you get past the "Pete's 300 - The Workout" hype and actually click on one of his links to order, you are directed to the main sales page. (Check out the "affiliate tracker" in the URL address of these links, which ensures he gets paid if you buy.) It's splashy, it's flashy... and provides no real information whatsoever. (I'm looking at the Acai Detox Extreme page, as an example, but most of these sites follow the same general format.)

Diet Scam Marketing 101
First, there are bullet points containing general statements with no real facts to back them up. Then, a series of quotes from various reputable sources (talk shows, news sources, etc) taken out of context. A few photos of celebrities, which cleverly implies in the buyer's mind that these people endorse the products, without stating so explicitly. A paid testimonial or two. And all over, links to buy now, "before supplies run out" or "before this offer expires," neither of which ever actually happens.
At this point, there's nowhere to go, except to order. No ingredients or nutrition info. No warnings or side effects listed. This is the beauty of the lack of FDA regulation -- for the company, that is. For you, it should be a huge warning. There is no guarantee as to what this product actually is, or what it will actually do. Skimming through the Terms and Conditions, I found, along with the standard statements regarding consulting your doctor before beginning this or any diet, and that the product does not diagnose or treat any condition, this little gem:
"We do not warrant or represent that Our Products will provide You with any particular benefits, or that Your results will match those of others who consume Our Products. Individual results will vary from person to person."
There you have it. They state countless benefits of acai as fact on the sales page, and hide in their disclaimer that they do not actually claim their product will do anything. Purportedly, you can send the unused portion of your product back after 15 days, but you need to jump through a few hoops to do so (calling the company to get a return number... at a number not listed anywhere on the website, only in the Terms and Conditions). Simply returning the package will not stop the recurring charges on your credit card, which kick in after your two-week "free trial" is up.
So, Does Acai Work for Weight Loss?
The real answer is: who knows. With no scientific studies and no evaluation by the FDA, all we have is anecdotal evidence--which may or may not be made up on the spot to make some money.
And even if pure acai berry does burn fat, the products you can get on the internet like Detox Xtreme and Burn Extreme probably don't contain very much acai at all. A study that compared several commercially-available acai juice drinks to other beverages found that they all contained less antioxidants than pomegranate juice, grape juice, blueberry juice, and red wine, which suggests that acai products are probably mostly made up of fillers.
Conclusion: Don't waste your money. Eat a healthy diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables, high in fiber and lean protein. Get some exercise. Lower your stress levels. Laugh more. These are the best ways to improve your quality of life, your health, and your longevity.

This is a good hub, Maddie. I did an article on acai berry scams and found that they use deceptive "free Product" offers and then capture credit card numbers for ongoing monthly charges of nearly $100 and make it difficult to cancel. One site stated the terms and conditions such that you would have to cancel the order before you ever received the "free" sample to avoid the $87 monthly charge. It would be criminal if advertised in any venue other than the net.
Hi Maddie! The other day I said the same thing to one of my friends. I told him that they have been able to create so much hype about Acai (courtesy Oprah) that people are blindly going in for it without even knowing what exactly its composition is and how is it different from other diet supplements. The fact is ...it is no different. If you (as you pointed out) add fresh vegetables and fruits, and cut out bread from your meals then you're going to have better results and with no side effects. :)
So I really can't look like I walked off the set of 300 in four weeks?
Glad I found this article after thinking the "Pete's 300" page was a lot of BS. Getting ripped like that requires strict dieting and training or help from pharmaceuticals. thank you for providing facts behind the hype and marketing.
Good article - I personally have received emails like the following about these so called free trials.
“I have made numerous attempts to contact you to cancel my trial of Nature’s Acai Berry, but have been unsuccessful. No representative picks up the phone after being on hold a considerable amount of time – always results in me being disconnected.
I have contacted my credit card company and they were able to provide me with your website/email address. Also, they have been notified that no charges are to be approved.
Cancel my Acai Berry trial and do not send anymore product.”
excellent work
i liked your hub
you have really worked very hard
its a very knowledge giving article
thanx
Great Hub!! I agree with you 100%!! Eat naturally organic veggies, a balanced diet free of additives and preservatives, and lots of blueberries and I believe you will be on your way to a great weight loss program. Natural ginger tea is also a great colon cleanse and detox!! Good job!! Thank you for your hubs!
Be Blessed,
Kim Garcia
You are so right. The same thing happened to me with the teeth whitening ads online. This is definitely a false advertisement!!! You can see Pete's story at www.petegetsripped.com. But at the same time, www.tonyambrose.com, features a guy named Tony who looks exactly like Pete with the almost same story!
Thank you so much! I almost wasted my money buying these pills to see if they would work. They even have free trial offers that the shipping is only 99 cents...It looked really tempting, until I stumbled upon ryans300workout.com, when I was on petes300workout.com. Then I read another review and it took me to tonyambrose.com. All three sites are the exact same, same comments, same pictures. Thanks for providing the truth behind all these lies.
Thank you Maddie for doing my homework for me as I was intrigued at one point in time to give this "fad" a trial. Now I don't have to. One can buy a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables rather than burning their hard earned money on this experimental product!
Thank You, so much. Now, after reading this, I have made my mind up not to buy the stuff!
Thanks Maddie. I have also tried a 'free sample' of Acai Burn only to be charged on my credit card 14 days later (be sure to read the ultra 'fine print' on the sales page). A few international phone calls later, I finally managed to get some of my money back. Needless to say, the product made no difference. I definately prefer 'natural' detox methods and would recommend fresh fruit, veges, raw nuts and copious amounts of green tea to anyone needing a quick and healthy 7 day detox.
I see alot of weight loss products being sold that claim to have the acai berry ingredient, but like you mentioned diet pills will not have much of it and would not constitute a realistic result to trimming fat. The raw food diet is what works and will always out perform any chemical substances.
I am glad I found your website. I just paid for one of those Acai Berry products from a website called "Ryan's 300". After I paid for it I came across your site. I immediately called to cancel my order, unfortunately, my info was not showing up in their system yet. I will call them back later to cancel it thanks to you. It seemed to good to be tue, I should have known better. Thank you for informing us.
a few things... this is a really good hub... about the actual product: Everybody seems to think that fat burners get rid of fat, that is wrong, once a fat cell is in your body, it is there forever, unless it is surgically removed. the way a fat burner works is that it gets rid of all the water in the cell such that it seems smaller... making u look less fat. second, its a fat burner, not a muscle maker, so no, people will not get six pack abs from taking a fat burner, you still have to hit the gym hard for that.
very good hub, i like all the points you make, just thought i would add those two in there!
thank you checked into all those websites they are all the same i was about to buy it as well from ryans 300 thanks for the info showing me it was a scam
Very good hub! Thanks for exposing the lies!!!!!
Maddie, I appreciate your honesty with your articles. This one really cleared up some questions I had on the berry but didn't have time to sift through the flashy ads.
I'm a Physician working in Berverly Hills that specializes in Sports Medicine. A patient inquired about "Ryan's 300 website and ask, "Should I give this product a shot to get ripped?" With my patient present i check out the site to give an objective opinion. One of the 1st questionable findings(one of many) was a photo of a friend of mine who is a fitness model. Should i write anything more. Always look for FDA apporval. Less flash and more medical facts are the way to go if a product seems tempting.
Its fantastic to see people undoing the hard work of the scam merchants that litter the internet; getting rid of the massive ambiguity that surrounds these products and thousands like them. Great job!
Great Hub. I've heard the hype about acai berry, but wondered if it had any basis in fact. I guess if it sounds too good to be true (take a pill, lose weight) it is. Darn!
i would have killed myself if it took my credit card number and charged me so much money. i am pretty low on money the way it is so when i saw it was 99 cents i thought why not. thank god i looked into it. and thank u for being here.
Great hub, very informative.
Thanks for this hub great info I was about to put my credit card number in when I decided to do alittle research! Thanks for saving me the trouble!
wow thank you very much i was about to order some from a different website,i googled it n found this!!!
acai schmakai - just eat baked chicken and raw veggies - for better results - that's what the tri-athletes do when training - and those guys/gals are serious about nutrition.
I can't even say how greatful I was reading this hub. Let many overweight people I have tried every quick fix. I was thinking of trying this. I didnt because of the price plus they hooked you up to an auto shipment system. Thats for saving me money and disappionment...Great post
Great Hub! Here's one I wrote: http://hubpages.com/hub/depressionanddating
I am currently writing a hubpage on the acai berry diet. I am actually on it. I have completely changed my diet and exercise regularly but I was stuck at the same weight. It's only been a week and I lost 4 pounds. I believe that there are some out there that work. It just depends on which one you use.
Yeah, this product will surely get you ripped in 4 weeks.....ripped off that is! Thanks for posting this hub and exposing those scammers.
this hub completely changed my way of thinkin. all you need really is a good diet, low stress and excersice....
There are so many acai berry supplements out there and many of them are scam and fake product. So it is request for every one who is willing to use acai berry just read with care their terms and conditions first.
Any way thanks for your nice and informative hub
thanks for keeping me from making a BIG mistake in buying this!
You're right mostly, as 90% of internet marketers who promote these products through affiliate commissions dont care, in fact they will promote the product that pays the highest commission not the best product.
However, Acai is a good supplement to add to any healthy eating plan, its anti oxidant properties are high and it does provide a natural energy lift.
My advice is to those wanting to try Acai is to find an Acai product with atleast 7:1 extract (most only offer 3:1) and have a longer term trial period atleast 21 days so that you have sufficient time to receive the order test the product and decide to continue or not.
ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd
the supplements and the ones who advertize and promote them are SCAM.
i ordered it and first, the bottles do not look anything like the brochure.
i cancelled, it took 1hr on the phone to call at 4 different places to get 4 different cancellation numbers.
one person on the phone told me she was emailing me the address for the reutnr product; i stayed with her on the phone, theemail never arrived, she gave me an P.O. address to mail back - make sure you certify mail.
i cancel all subscriptions and all and i still got billed again 1 month later, had to re-call them
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM, IT IS PURE GARBAGE, BELIEVE ME YOU WILL BE SORRY AS I WAS TO HAVE EVEN ENTERTAIN TRYING THIS SHAM.
Thanks for all this info! I too was considering buying this product, but now that you have dispelled all the myths around it, I guess I will just keep hitting the gym and eat healthy. Thanks again for keeping me from making a HUGE mistake.
Acai is an excellent detox agent which could be quite useful in the detoxification process. Nice hub. very informative.
Oh my god i just put my credit card number and then i just saw this article can someone help me and tell me what to do omg i cant believe this and im not good on money right now come on i cant believe i got ripped by a scam omg what can i do??
Thank You. Came across this just after ordering some. Managed to cancel the order.
Hi maddie, your really on to something here. I love what you've done with the place. I wish you the most success possible, keep up the good work!
I love your hub and to everyone out there that don't beleave in acai berries, it's time to wake up. The news is not simply trying to sell the product because it isn't a product it can be made into a product but the fact is it is healthy. I hope the author desn't mind me putting a link an article http://www.acai-antioxidants.com
Hey Juan, give me your credit card info I will track it down for you and make sure nobody rips you off...Just kidding.
Anyway, I think if people want to get the benefits of Acia berries, just eat the damn berries themselves. Don't buy concentrates. If the human body was meant to take 10:1 ratio of food nature would provide foods that give 10:1 ratios of nutrients. The best way to balance a diet is to include it into your normal diet with a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio depending on weight and metabolism and see if it gives you more energy or you lose weight.
If there is one thing to keep in mind it is that every person's body is different and it may have negative effects to some people.
Many acai berry free trials are scam nowadays. Just they are stealing our money by subscribing us to unknown diet plans and magazines.
Hi maddie, Great Hub, very informative. I just so the "Pete's 300 - The Workout" website and i must say I was intrigued by it. but now i read this and I did a 360. thanks! greating from the Netherlands.
Ok I ordered this shit and I want to get out of it, what should I do?
Call them? Call my credit card company and tell them not to approve the charge?
Ive actually tried the detox xtreme and just out of my experience it made a big difference... just taking it modivated me more to work out more and harder. This could be the cause of the difference Ive seen, but since using it I have seen a noticable difference. Just thought Id let everone know from experience.
Nice article, see you have put alot of thought into this and I very much like what you have said. In retrospec everything you said is very opinionated and not based on the products results. Myself and a team of 5 other fitness consultants often see these sort of internet hypes and test it ourself to inform people. After testing Acai Force XT and Acai Detox Xtreme weight loss was seen with help from proper diet along with the product, also the test subject loss weight and gained energy in a healthy way requarding their body.
Overall I do agree that proper exercise and a healthy diet over rule all additives. If a person is having trouble during there healthy diet and exercise or they find themselves unmotivated due to a lack of energy, they sound try Acai product because it can do wonders for you and nothing for others. Give it a try!
Wow is all i can say. I read this for useful information but decided to personally test the product to see the results. I took the product acai burn and i dropped from 150 to 123 in a matter of two weeks, this was WITHOUT any SERIOUS dieting. The product works people, acai helps, but you must work for anything you want.
Haw THE SCAM IS ON THEM I ORDER 4 DEFFERNT FREE TRIALS PILL THEY SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE 100$ A MOUNTH CHARGES. AND THAT I CAN CANCEL ANYTIME I SAID OK BECAUSE I WANTED THE PILLS. SO I ORDERED WITH A PRE PAID CREDIT CARD WITH JUST ENOUGH MONEY FOR THE FREE TRIAL BECAUSE I KNEW THEY WHERE LYING. THEY ALSO SAID THEY WOULD EMAIL ME A CANCIL NUMBER BUT I NEVER RECIEVED IT.
Absolutely loved this HUB. The closest I came to the Acai scam is drinking Acai smoothies from a health food store. I am always skeptical about any claims of "fat burners" or "mircale in a pill" as I know nothing is ever that easy.... A lot of people benefited from this Hub, Great job!
Awesome article, and thanks for helping get the truth out there! In addition to being bunk, a lot of the "acai berry diet" sites will post false charges to your credit card. Nice, right?!
Great hub.... I had my finger ready to place an order for acai berry, u save me n my wallet---- gracias
I live in Brazil, so I used to eat Acai everyday, mostly because there was an Acai place nearby work. About 500 mililters (17 oz) or a whole liter (34oz) almost every day. Never made much of a difference, although it tastes very good and its kinda healthy.
Unless there's something else in the formula of these medications, they won't make much difference on how your look.
Acai diet pills do work. And you can get it for free.
I suggest to go to http://best-free-diet-pills.com/acai-berry , get into all those sites, order from all of them so you can get yourself enough pills to last for a long time, but before(!) you order, check under the terms & conditions what do you need to do so you won't get charged again.
Some how people wan overeat and spend money for getting fit. That is why all kind of scams are so attractive.
Goys, do body building AND cardio get Protein and good vitamins e.g. Animal Pak. EAT 6 times per day balanced food ...
Can eat even chocolate and don't get fat.
No Pain, No Gain!
I can only say this: To the perfect body, are there no easy way! It requires hard workout and a strict diet, if you want to look like the people from 300.. I recomend you go to youtube, and watch some of the nice home workout videos, because some of them are really good! If you use 1-2 weeks to study workout and the muscles and how to train them, and all that, you can make your own program that fits to you! Come on guys, there really is no easy way to a perfect body!
Sorry my poor english :)
Well written, it pretty much reaffirms what I always thought about acai, mostly though, I love the way it tastes! So that it's at least as good for you as blueberries is good enough for me!
