Do Bananas Cure Hangovers?
53You've probably heard the popular folk remedy that bananas cure hangovers, but is that true? It absolutely is! After a night of heavy drinking, your body is heavily depleted of potassium. That's one of the main reasons you feel so horrible the next morning. Bananas are one of the highest natural sources of potassium, so eating one (or two) will help to replenish that lost potassium.
Bananas are also high in magnesium, which will help to reduce those pounding headaches by relaxing your blood vessels. In addition, bananas are a natural antacid, which will help to reduce any nausea or heartburn you are experiencing. Bananas are also high in B6, a vitamin that has been shown to reduce your hangover symptoms.
So bananas really do cure hangovers! If you can, drink a large glass of water along with one or two bananas before you go to bed the night you've been drinking. If you're still feeling bad in the morning, try this great banana milkshake recipe!
Bananas Cure Hangovers Milkshake
Ingredients
- 1 Large, ripe banana
- 1 1/2 Cups milk
- 2 Tbsp honey
Blend all ingredients together. Make sure you drink this slowly, so that your body is able to absorb everything. Room temperature milkshakes will probably feel better if you have an upset stomach, but you can make this a frozen milkshake by adding some ice, or storing unpeeled bananas (wrapped in plastic wrap) in your freezer.
