Ok now that you’ve made the decision that your marriage is worth saving you can put any thoughts of divorce out of your mind. No need to contemplate going to the divorce lawyer anymore. No need to have bad thoughts about your relationship. You’ve made the commitment to yourself to see this marriage through and stay in a relationship with your spouse.
You’re going to need to make changes in order for your relationship to work. Don’t worry whether or not your spouse wants to make the changes with you. You may have to make changes by yourself initially. But that is alright. No one ever said that marriage was a 50-50 situation. You pick up the slack for your partner. That’s what people in good marriages do for one another.
If you’re not use to it go ahead and mentally prepare yourself to engage your spouse in more conversation. Go ahead and take some time to get to know your spouse more. If they have a hobby or activity that they like to do then try to get involved and share that experience with them.
If you think that it is needed ask your spouse if he or she is comfortable talking to a marriage counselor. A marriage counselor will be able to take an objective look at your marriage and help facilitate the conversation between you and your spouse.
Get the idea of the perfect marriage out of your head. There is no such thing. Every marriage is different. Find out what works for you and your spouse. What works for your relationship should be considered the perfect marriage for the two of you.
