Seconds are Valuable as well

Two or three moons ago, (A short time) I became the NSW Sales Manager of an Australian Publisher, with nine different Publishing Companies of some wonderful books, giving A Country as the titles of cook books. Titles like: -‘France the Beautiful and Australia the Beautiful.’ Literally every Country had a Cook book published for the Country. Another of his Companies was a Company as a Seconds Book Distributor.

In other words these books had previously been sold in all bookshops throughout Australia, or the World. So in their second life, they were now sold through staff members of factories, schools, hospitals, even kindergartens. In fact anywhere you could find a responsible person to look after your new books and they employed more than one person. These books would sell for less than half price. This Seconds Selling never occurred through the Nation’s bookshops. Weldon’s would take from Publishers from all over the World and on sell anywhere up to 30 – 40,000 copies of a title, (which in those days you could purchase a new house for the same cost.) Moved these books throughout Australia to their State warehouses and let their 147 Sales People all over Australia commence earning exceptionally good money.

The Sales person would leave from 6 to 10 books, depending on the size of their car, with a range of titles for 10 working days. There was always someone at the receptor business that would look after the books to be sold. Especially if you looked after all these people well, after all they were likely to make you a lot of money. The books were sold at less than 50% of the original Price and the sales person would return and pick up all the unsold books on the 10th work day. They would have multiple units of the most popular titles and get paid for all the sold copies on order. (The most of any one title that I personally sold at a business house was 22 copies. 'Death by Chocolate.' That was a really great book.)

The Money or the Books
The Money or the Books

The Money or the Books

You have to be most particular with your paper work, from each drop. As you’re debited with each book you pick up from the warehouse. The ware house manager will need each title returned or else payment in cash for each book not returned. If you deliver 100 different books on Monday on the eleventh day he will want 100 books back or the cash equivalent for all the books you have sold.

If they are not returned the salesperson will be charged the difference out of the next payment. Belive me this will hurt you financially. I have seen Salespeople charged a $1,000.00 because their bookkeeping was slap dash.

It is called the Money or the Books.

After demonstrating one’s Ability to sell I was made the NSW State Manager within 8 weeks, with 42 sales people running as many books as they could fit in their vehicles, usually cars, mostly Mum’s and Dad’s wanting out of the rat race. These Salespeople were given areas and were not allowed to stray. Their income was 50% of the price of the book that was sold, less any costs towards your wonderful operator, who looked after all your books and collected the money to be given to you in lieu of books, which are not returned. You would give a free book if ten books were sold and any over ten add on to the next pick up of the books you would be dropping off this week.

So in essense you drop of ten books in first week, with a list of tittles, (One of each books you dropped at the site.) There is a place for each person's name on this sheet of the person who ordered that book. The night before you were to pick up the returns, ring the person who is responsible for looking after the left books and find out how many books have been ordered.

Ring up the warehouse and arrange to pick up any book titles you may not have sufficient of those title with you. You always get a carton of books when you receive your stock on Friday afternoons. Now if this vehiclle is your only vehicle, you will need a water proff garage to unload your car, when you get home. This way uour car is availabe for your childrens Taxi to their sporting venues.

You could make very convincing income.

The Car’s boot and interior was the only limitation the Salesperson faced with books quantities. In fact anywhere you could find space you would pack books into that space.

Management was convinced (by me) to run a competition, to which any Sales person in Australia would be eligible. Every Sales person had a target or quantity of books to be sold over a 13 week period. The top two Salespeople from each State would be given a new Mitsubishi five door Wagon ($27,000). Leased by The Company in the sales person name. The competition was put into place and finished in 13 weeks. Sixteen of those new Wagons were leased and the sales from these sixteen people increased five times their previous best. Not only had our Publishing House’s income skyrocketed but the individuals’ income stratosphered. Life was great, with NSW out pacing the rest of Australia.

Frank’s Flying Circus

The Powers to be came up with idea of sending Frank every other Friday night on an airplane at 5.00 PM to another State. Dinner followed by a Sales Meeting for three hours. Saturday All day session, with Social Evening Sunday another four hours, from 12.30PM to 4.30PM. These weekends were mandatory and there would be 20 to 30 People to listen to “Frank’s Flying Circus.” Someone would always do the Introduction as when a Guest Speaker is to be announced and naturally would be very nice to that Guest Speaker.

“Frank Shead is well known to all of you.” La di da….. “Truly I have never seen anyone that puts so much Passion in to any project, they are involved in, He is Mr. Passion himself.” All very flattering, still it got the attention of everybody present at the meeting. These fortnightly Frank’s Flying Circuses became an overnight success and four more of the salespeople were able to achieve the turnover to be given a new Mitsubishi. This of course is to illustrate what a little bit of Passion would do, in any situation.

$1,000,000

Never watch Oprah during the Day. Val called my attention to a segment.

A young school girl of 14 years of age had raised $100,000 to help Children learn in South Africa. Her passion raised that money. This young Girl was picked up with her mother and father by Ex President Clinton by a Helicopter. He was so impressed by this young lady’s Passion. He asked her what her goal was.

$1,000,000 was the reply. A friend of his gave her $500,000 towards her next goal. Bill Clinton also gave her a significant sum of money. In your mind, how long do you think it would before the young Lady gained her total of $1,000,000? What a wonderful young lady. I am proud that the World has got this type of young person growing to Maturity, for msome one else's benefit.

Passion Coupled with a PMA with a little touch of Faith will achieve Wonders. As the Bible say “Faith can Move Mountains.”

What are you going to begin feeling truly passionate about today? Feed that fire inside and begin to spread that flame. There’s a whole world out there that needs to feel the warmth of the fire of your passion. Live with passion!

Antidote Injection

Antidote Injection
Antidote Injection

Passion is the Antidote

The dictionary defines passion as “a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object or concept.” I define passion to mean a deep caring, caring enough about something to stick with it in the good times and the bad. When you are truly passionate about something people will hear it, they will see it and when they are with you they will feel your passion. The passion becomes a fire burning brightly from within you.

Passion is the antidote to the “I Can’t” syndrome. In this incredible, abundant world in which we live there seem to be an awful lot of people giving into the “I Can’t” syndrome. These are the people that try something once, or never at all, and then they say “I can’t.” “I can’t sing.” “I can’t sell.” “I can’t speak in public.” “I can’t ask for a raise.” “I can’t move up in life.” “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t……” They’re right you know. One symptom of the insidious “I Can’t” syndrome is that we begin to believe it ourselves and once we believe we can’t do something, we go about proving ourselves right. “I have seen new Hubbers saying I can’t do that.” I have done it myself.

So where does passion come in? When we experience true passion for something we become an unstoppable force. We stop wasting precious time thinking of reasons why we can’t and, like a bulldozer, we begin to push aside the obstacles in our path.

People with passion still experience fear, that clutching in the chest that makes them think of taking the easy road out by saying “I can’t”, but they don’t give up. Why? Because of the Passion, they hold inside themselves, their passion overrides their fear when they want to give up.

What can passion do for you? When a person is passionate about something they are on fire and their fire can light a fire for others around them. Are you passionate about your work? Do you represent a product that you could passionately promote and watch it fly off the shelves? Are you passionate about your friends and family? Do they feel your passion? Passion in your life can be like icing on an already delicious cake, making it even better.

How do you become passionate? Starts by letting yourself feel passionate about something, anything. Challenge yourself today to feel deeply and passionately about at least one thing. I love the exuberance of youth. My Sons have frequently said in the past things like “This was the best day of my life.” They lived for the moment, passionately savoring their life. As I write these words I am sitting by an open window, where I can hear the Sea, listening to birds singing and Val playing the beautiful floating music of ‘Moon River.’ This is one of our old favourites. I feel a soft breeze on my skin. I almost feel as though I can sense the turning of the earth. I am passionate about life. I love to drink in each moment and savor it on my tongue.

I am also passionate about helping others to experience the unparalleled joy of having passion for life. It’s a funny thing about passion, it grows. When you begin feeling passionate about something or someone you will find that your feelings for other parts of your life and other people will grow as well.

My Mentor Teaches me

More years than I remember a person, whom I had a lot of faith in became a Mentor to me. This man taught me a lot about life, and perhaps managed to instill a little wisdom? He told, showed and tutored me in Passion as a word and a meaning. His most remembered comment: - “If you want to impress people, show them a spark of Passion.” A short ago time my Mentor died at the age of 94. He sent me a birthday card for my 70th year. I will remember Allan.

This is just some of the sentences he gave me as a young man.

‘When you talk with and show Passion, you become a power figure bringing confidence and knowledge to the table with you and people will stop to listen to you intently.’

‘Do it properly the first time, but do it with Passion.’

“Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you’ve got to say and say it hot.” D.H. Lawrence

“Every man without passions has within him no principle of action, or motive to act.”

Claude A. Helvetius

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.”

Anthony J D'Angelo

So this great word Passion has been in my mind for almost 60 years. Whatever task I am involved in I show Passion for what I am doing. My involvement in any matter or project, I always bring my Passion with me.

From Webster’s Dictionary there are pages and pages of quotes

52 pages with references to passion:

Many people believe if you talk of passion you have to be talking Love, Smut, or some other ridiculous nonsense. Webster’s have 6 different definitions.

The Passion of some Hubbers

Over the last three months I have been asking many Hubbers to offer you and me their feelings of “Passion.” In fact I have 65 Hubbers who have made a contribution to this hub. I will honour some in a “Spark of Passion.” Then in the next Hub produce many more for your entertainment. Trusting and hoping that they will spark the Passion within you.

This is what my Mentor Allan did almost fifty years ago with me.

Passion from Mark Knowles

Passion - A powerful word - What is passion, how do you know it when you experience it? Passion is easy to confuse with other strong emotions. It’s easy to confuse passion with anger, with lust, with obsession, with madness.

Is it passion when you discover yourself in a heated argument – are you passionate about something or merely trying to inflict your values on someone else?

Even the dictionary definition of passion is confused – “A powerful emotion, such as love, joy, hatred, or anger.” And this is one of the hardest emotions to define. Passion is a catch all term for many other emotions. You know when you are angry – you know when you hate something, but do you really know when you are passionate about something.

I think of the good things I am passionate about; the view over the sea from the hill I live on, the smell of lemon blossoms, the taste of fresh grown in-season tomatoes, the joy of finding a new wine and cheese combination, the pleasure of spending an afternoon with some friends trying to outdo each other by cooking something the other has never tried, the sound of the waves breaking on the beach at midnight.

I think of the way I feel about my wife and know I would rather die than see something bad happen to her. But I also know I can’t protect her from everything. My first wife died age 33 from the disease they call cancer, the one that eats you from the inside out, giving you so very few choices, so very few alternatives and none of them pleasant.

I passionately believe that no matter the cures and the money spent looking for a solution and the lies and the propaganda that is spread, the true answer lies in the chemicals we dump into our water, the fumes we pour from our factories, the garbage we put in our food and feed to our children; this “passion,” we have for owning and controlling and collecting and having more, more, more.

Rudra

Rudra
Rudra

RudRa

What does passion mean to most of us? Is there something that rouses your soul and takes your emotions to another, a deeper level? I have realised that there is something that I am passionate about.

Deep down I contemplate myself as a little scholar because I find myself watching, reading, and browsing about "history". I am passionate about History; be it Greek, Roman, Indian or any other. I see myself constantly exploring channels or books in shops or the library to take away. This fascination leads to such an extent that whenever a program is on TV about history I particularly get ecstatic and put my feet up to view it.

Whenever one talks about history it is usually referred to as something that was either read in a book or taught at school. But history is more than that; History is the model of our past, a tale of mankind. People of most cultures went to great strengths to record their history either by writing it down on whatever they could or even by word of mouth. It is believed that the natives of Australia managed to cling to their history using this oral tradition for centuries. Today history of course requires resources from a number of interdisciplinary orders ranging from mathematicians, chemists, sociologists, geologists to representative of nearly all life science disciplines.

The reason why history is essential and why we should all be passionate about is that history is the account of mankind and not a mere date, dead people, a storyline or a plot of events and places. It is importance to our society as history facilitates our understanding of people and societies. As the past created the present, history ameliorates our understanding of that change and how the Civilization and the world we live in came to exist. History is important so that we do not repeat the mistakes of the past.

The passion in my day and the feelings that won't go away

I want you by my side; you are in my every part

My heart, my soul and my thoughts...I have no control

If only you were by my side to keep warm, hold me, take me

What can I say..? What can I do..? I can't live in this world without you

As I showered today I tried to wash you away

Wash away the memories, the love and the happy times

Wash you out of my mind, "wash you out of my hair"

But you are always there.

In my heart, in my soul and in my thoughts

I HAVE NO CONTROL

Don't Ever Give Up!!!!! Never Never Never!!!!!!!

There is hardly anything more beautiful or valuable to humanity than the God instilled inbred passion that inhabits the very depths of who we are. That passion is a dream.

Your dream can either take you to heights you never could imagine or you can choose to let it die and be buried in the complacent tomb of fear, marked by the cold stone of the ordinary. The cold stone of the ordinary has no unique shape or embellishments, mass fields of missed opportunities are lined with their identical markers with no future identity.

How can you prevent the death of your dream? Don't Ever Give Up!!!!!! Therein lays the evidence, the secret, and the truth behind every human being that has ever marked their legacy. The story of every mighty warrior, president, king, inventor or any person who has made an impact in their lifetime. Their story, their message, their advice or their unending legacy is summed up with these simple, yet profound words- Never Give Up!

I came back to hubpages after almost a year (thirty day challenge...), and then reviewed what I had done almost a year ago. I found a very kind comment of your's on one of my hubs, http://hubpages.com/hub/Avocado-Calories, anyway that hub is flagged now - still have to find out why :-)

So I checked out your hub, and this Passion hub is JUST what I needed!!!

Thank you soooooo much, and I will spend the next days checking out your other hubs ;-)
