Do these arts really deserve these hefty prices?

Art is priceless. I fully agree with that. Some of the legendary arts like Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and many others are fortunately beyond anybody’s reach. They are tugged away safely among the secure walls of the museums. Yet, there are plenty of arts that command a premium and people are willing to shell out some outrageous prices. How much do you think they are willing to go ? A million, two, ten, twenty? Nope. You are not even close.Keep going up. Recently an art was auctioned off for an outrageous price of over $ 135 millions. That’s the kind of money the movie stars and pro sports players make and they would not even dare to spend that kind of money on arts.

I stumbled across this link that lists some of the most expensive paintings ever sold. As you expect, there are some pieces by Picasso and Van Gogh. As I went through the list, I was fascinated and wanted to know more about why these arts cost so much. The result is the birth of this hub. I listed only four here and feel free to explore the other pieces and get enchanted by these immortal arts.

This is one of the most expensive paintings that was recently sold for a whopping price of 135,000,000 $. To make this kind of money, the whole populace of Marshalls Islands has to slug it out the whole year. Doesn't it make you sick? I was wondering what was so special about this painting and found some interesting things. The artist, Gustav Klimt used oil, gold and silver in this painting. He was considered a rebel and was the target of violent criticism; his work was sometimes displayed behind a screen to avoid corrupting the sensibilities of the young. Check out some his works here.

For just over 77 million dollars, you can have this baby. This is a 18th century painting by Peter Paul Reubens. This story is from the Gospel of Mathhews. King Herod ordered to kill all new-born boys two years and under to stop them from becoming the Messiah. Reubens is famous for painitng male nudes. Just look at the details - the scratch on the soldier's cheek, the old woman biting, the bowed head of the mourning mother beside the heap of dead children. I fully agree with the lofty price of this beautiful art.

Pablo Picasso is a famous Spanish painter and sculptor lived in our modern times. He is famous for his surrealistic sculptures. This piece known as Garcon a la Pipe(Boy with a Pipe) fetched an amazing $104.1 million. The painting shows a young Parisian boy, holding a pipe in his left hand and wearing a garland of roses. Some of the art enthusiasts that were present at the auction could not understand why this was sold for this price because there are other pieces by Picasso more artistic than this. Many art critics have stated that the painting's high sale price has much more to do with the artist's name than with the merit or historical importance of the painting.

Pierre Renoir is a great 19th century French impressionist painter. He adored female sensulaity and it reflects in his art works. Pierre Renoir’s nude paintings are well appreciated by his fans. Obviously, some had 78 million reason to appreciate this. We can only dream of that kind of money.

I love the Impressionists art. The beautiful colors and vivid imaginations of these artists. Art is in the eye of the beholder! The beholder places the value of the piece of art.

I think these works of art are excellent quality and if i was thee artist of all these paintings i would not quibble if someone has valued them or wants to pay zillions of bucks for them..But yes, many paintings like the one's above are beautiful especially the style by Peter Paul Reubens..

My question is..If really famous people" actors, singers etc, who are not artists, but paint picture's as a hobby and are not that good!! and know it will be worth lots of dosh beacuse of who they are,.. Do these arts really deserve these hefty prices? anyway...a

Nice comments. Are these arts famous because of the artists or vice versa? Great point for discussion. We may never find the answer.
