Obama Economic Stimulus Plan Working
68President Barack Obama Administration
The question is not whether Obama can help the economic downturn with the $787 billion economic stimulus plan? The question should be whether or not Obama along with the American people can help the economic downturn. You see, not one person not even the most powerful person in the world can affect change in an economic downturn. Obama did not get the country into the mess that it is in today and he can not get the country out of it alone. As Obama said in one of his campaign speeches, it took a long time for President Bush (Both President Bushes) to dig a financial hole that the country finds itself in today. It is going to take the cooperation of the American people, cabinet members and adherence to Obama's doctrine of change to get the country back up and running with prosperity once again.
Obama walked into a divided house with the Republicans in one room and the Democrats in the other. His goal was to unite the parties and to govern in a non-bipartisanship manner. Obama stepped across party lines and nominated Republican Senator Judd Gregg for the Commerce Secretary of his cabinet. (Mr. Judd Gregg has since stepped down from the post for his lack of support for the recovery package) One week into Senator Gregg's appointment, he announced that he was stepping down because his conservative views could not accept the $787 billion recovery plan. He cited that issues about being his own person had began to emerge. Senator Gregg must have forgotten that Obama crossed party lines even agreeing to make sure that the senate seat he vacanted in New Hampshire was filled by another Republican to get him appointed. That is thought of as a very unAmerican way of filling a vacant Senate seat except the way the impeached govennor of Illinois was trying to fill Obama's Senate seat.
This cabinet appointment was brought up because it signifies the problems that President Obama is having with keeping good qualified appointments. It is thought that Senator Gregg may boast now that he was the Republican who reflected from Obama's administration. Boasting or not, this is one of the moves that deter Obama from using qualified people because of bipartisanship to commit to the American people and the economic downturn.
Until Congress agrees to act as partners playing equally to solve the economic downturn, Obama may be met with a bit of a struggle. However, as Obama is known for his coolness, it is not unforeseeable that sooner of later the Republicans will have to move that bus and show that government is government whether it is run by a Democrat or a Republican. And right now the American people need a government that is going to work together for the good of the country to get this economic downturn behind them so that the country can move forward.
Obama was able to win over three Republicans to get the $787 Billion Economic Stimulus bill passed between both the House and the Senate. Those brave, tried and true American Republicans were Ms. Snowe, Ms. Collins both from Maine and Mr. Specter from Pennsylvania. Mr. Spector deflected from the Republican Party after twenty-nine years to become a fellow democrat like Obama.
If Obama can persuade other Republicans to meet equally with the Democrats in governing the American people, then this economic downturn can be easily fixed.
The House and the Senate's approval of Obama's Economic Stimulus Plan was the first major step forward in the right direction that he took not alone but along with Congress to get America out of the economic downturn. Affects of the president's stimulus package is not expected to effect the economic for two years though some jobs in transportation and energy may be created.
Now it is going to take the diligence towards change of the American people to take advantage of the $400 tax credit and the $800 tax credits for couples that is going to affect 95% of Americans. The tax credits in the recovery package was included to get the American people back up and running again with spending for consumer goods and services. Americans should not hide the money under their mattresses, save, or pay bills with monies received from the economic stimulus package. They should participate in the economic of private enterprise by fueling and rebooting the economic with spending on goods and services to agitate the credit markets.
The economy is responding well with the news of the passage of the Economic Stimulus package as houses usually selling for $400,000 a few years ago are now selling for less than $200,000. The drop in the prices of mortgage is not directly associated with the economic stimulus plan but subsequent changes after its passage gets cadice from it. Also all new home buyers will get an $8,000 tax credit for purchasing a new home during 2009. There will also be tax credits for new car buyers.
The Republicans called the recovery plan a "pork" plan because of all of the spending, $787 billion worth. The Republicans are very wrong about the Economic Stimulus Plan and definitely do not get it. After reading about the tax credits on income, housing, and cars consumers will get the incentive to spend. Spending is basically what the Economic Stimulus Plan is all about and is sure to get Americans, up from the dirt and grime of a recession to remake America economically strong again.
The spending on the recovery bill will be finalized in about 18 months giving the political analyst time enough to measure the success levels of the economic plan. Do I think that President Barack Obama's administration can help the economic downturn in American. Yes We Can!

Thank you for explaining what the Republicans meant when they used the term "pork" when referring to the stimulus package.

Well, I disagree that the country needs a government or adherence to a "doctrine" in order to move forward, but that's a different debate.
I don't understand how the fact that houses are selling for half the price they were a few years ago is a sign that the economy is responding well to the passage of the stimulus bill. Perhaps you could clarify what you meant.
The simple fact that the stimulus bill includes spending doesn't qualify it as a pork product, but the nature of that spending does. As I pointed out in one of my own hubs, less than 1/8 of the funding in that bill involves any sort of legitimate economic stimulus and that's being generous with the definition. Recovery is going to require actual change, not a continuation of what got us here in the first place.
