History of the Anaheim Ducks

The Mighty Ducks(1993 - 2006) or Anaheim Ducks (2006 - ) were founded during the 1993 season by the Walt Disney Company. They were then sold on to Henry & Susan Samueli in June 2005 for $75,000,000.00

The Duck played in the Pacific Division of the National Hockey League's Western Conference and changed ownership following the cancellation of the 2004 - 2005 season, as many major inversers stopped backing the conference due to a labour dispute with the NHL Players association.

Home of the Ducks

The Honda Center became the home of the Duck when the team was purchased by Henry Samueli. Samueli owned the company who operate the city owned Honda Center.

The Indoor Arena wasn't always known by this name. It was originaly called Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim (the Pond to locals) as Arrowhead Water paid a massive $15,000,000 to name the center when it first opened in 1993 at a cost of $123,000,000. The name was changed again in October 2006 to the Honda Center as Honda paid a whopping $60,000,000, to rename the arena.

The Ducks Jersey

Following the purchase of the Ducks in2006 executive vice president Brian Burke changed the name of the team from the Mighty Ducks to the Anaheim Ducks and using the new logo on the teams official jersey. The logo featured a ducks webbed foot forming the letter "D" followed by the other letters of the word "DUCKS. The city name of Anaheim apears above the word "DUCKS" in small upper-case letters.

The new design was loosly based on the design of the United States Military Academy, which inspired the diagonal gold, black, white and orange stripes on the arms and waist. The orange in the jersey pays tribute to Orange County, where Anaheim is located.

For the 2007-08 NHL season, the Ducks, like all NHL teams, changed over to new Rbk Edge jerseys. The new Jersey shows only minor modifications from 2006-07, including a small NHL crest just below the neck. There are no third jerseys for this season.

MEET WILD WIND!

During the inaugural season in 1993, the fans were asked to pick a name for the mascot for the team. The fans picked the name "WILD WING".

WILD WING wear's a jersey with the number 93 on it to signify the year the Ducks joined the NHL. It is quite normal to see him decend from the rafters some 50 feet above the arena to the crys of the crown.
