Grocery Store Coupons

We are very fortunate to have two local grocery stores that double coupons. I get the Sunday paper delivered and also get 1 more every week so that I have twice the inserts.

I use a website called couponmom.com. They have most grocery stores nationwide listed on their website and they even post the grocery store deals and savings. For my area, they are typically posted on fridays. So, on friday nights, I go and print out the store deals. They list the coupon, where to find the coupon (what insert) and the date. So, all I do is find the deals I want to get for the weekend, go find the coupons, and then go shopping!

Every so often there are deals where the items are free or practically free. This is where I need to stock up on coupons, so I usually just go to ebay and find the coupons I am looking for.

Keep in mind that your local grocery store may only double the first coupon. For example, you have a salad dressing coupon for $1.00 and the salad dressings are on sale for $2.50. With the coupon doubling, you could get that bottle of salad dressing for only 50 cents. But at my grocery store, I could only do that once. If I tried using a second coupon, the second coupon would not double. So, sometimes I have to make several trips back into the store if the deal I want is very good.

How much money I save with grocery store coupons

I typically shop once per week and get the groceries only for the upcoming week. We are only 3 people in our household, myself, my wife and our 4 year old son. Our grocery bill is usually about $150.00 give or take each week and with store savings and coupons it usually ends up being about $90-$100. We shop at Von's which is a Safeway store and they usually have the Von's club items that save about $20-30 and then the coupons save another $20-30.

When items have been on sale, for example, recently they had the Fantastik's cleaner on sale for $2.50 each and we had the $1.00 coupon that doubled to $2.00. We saved close to 100% because we only bought the one item. We had a total of four coupons and my wife and I just went in two seperate lanes, bought the 1st set, dropped the bags off at the car, and went back in. Basically, we ended up buying four bottles for only $2.00 plus tax. We're set on cleaner for the whole year! As well as toothpaste, toothbrushes, and much more.

These are the type of deals you need to look for so that you can stock up for a long time.

What to look for at grocery stores

I know I've purchased winetags on ebay before for $1 or $2 off chicken, beef, seafood, bread, etc. Winetags are tags that are usually hanging around wine bottles. Some require wine purchase, some do not. The ones I like are the ones that do not require wine purchase.

We live in California and on very few occassions have found these winetags in our grocery stores. But if you live in different states, I know they can be found. This will save you a bunch of money if you can find some of these. (But don't be greedy, leave some for others!)

Another coupon you can look for are what are called "peelies". These are sticker coupons that are attached to a product. Recently on the Arm & Hammer baking soda boxes I found peelies. They had about 4 or 5 coupons for their different Arm & Hammer products. That same week, the Arm & Hammer Detergent was on sale 2 for $4.00. These coupons were for $1.00 which doubled. FREE Detergent! That was definitely a great find.

I know I posted some tips on coupons here and if anyone else has any tips for us, please post them now!

Great hub, I'm a big coupon person. Whether it be grocery shopping or clothes shopping. I sign up for all the VIP Programs where I shop. My key ring can't hold them all. :)

Excellent hub. Thanks for the Great info. We can save money by using coupons while shopping but many people neglect it. Especially in grocery stores they are needed.
