What Is Dyslexia And Do You Need To Take The Test?

In this post we are going to be looking at the complex condition known as dyslexia, and the viable option of taking a dyslexia test

Dyslexia is commonly known as a condition that causes learning difficulties, but It can go much deeper than just having difficulty in reading and writing.

A lot of adults can be very self conscious about having this condition, and hide the truth that they can't read, spell or write, by avoiding situations where they might have to do these things.

What may seem like a standard reading test to us, is a major uphill challenge to anyone that has learning difficulties and dyslexia.

As well as the more common reading and writing conditions, some other less common symptoms do exist that we should consider, such as stuttering, having problems remembering months and days, and trouble tying up shoelaces. It's only in the last decade or two that dyslexia has been recognised as a learning difficulty

Orton Dyslexia Society states that at least 1 in 10 of ordinary able people suffer from an acute dyslexic problem. Others would say about 8% of the population.

Because of the modern stigmas, a person suffering from dyslexia can be made to feel inadequate, alone, rejected causing the rise to a very low self esteem and confidence.

A dyslexia test is a good way to find out if you suffer from this condition.

There are two major types of dyslexia tests available. One is a screening test and the other is a comprehensive test.

A screening test is determined by testing a large amount of people in order filter out potential dyslexic individuals.

This is more often done with children, as it is so important to identify dyslexia early. A comprehensive test involves the measurement of the symptoms and then goes deeper into measuring the root of the dyslexia.

An online dyslexia test can now be taken. This should only be used to alert you to the fact that you may suffer from dyslexia. To sincerely confirm this you must see a specialist in the field, and have the necessary tests like the ones stated earlier in this post.

I would suggest anyone who thinks they might be dyslexic contacts their local Dyslexia Action Centre and asks for advice. Educational psychologists perform simple (even FUN) tests which are much more accurate than online tests. Costs I believe are around £350.
