I just finished writing a post about Earth Day and started thinking about people like Al Gore. Al Gore, in spite of being Vice President, has become famous for his Nobel Peace Prize after making the movie "An Inconvenient Truth". I saw the movie and it was well made, however, many of the facts of the movie have been and are continuing to be disputed. I'm not here to discuss those facts (although I think that the belief that global warming exists is just that, a belief). I would like to discuss Al Gore's plan for the world, how he will benefit from that plan and his own personal carbon footprint.
Al Gore would like to see Global Warming stopped. I think that is fair statement. Now, whether Global Warming is really happening is another story. How, Al Gore would like to stop Global Warming is by imposing a carbon tax upon every single man, woman and child in the world. According to Wikipedia a carbon tax is an environmental tax on emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. It is an example of a pollution tax. But articles have been written accusing Al Gore of supporting these measures because he will directly benefit from them. According to Newsbusters.org on March 1, while speaking at the TED Conference in Monterey, California, the Nobel Laureate admitted to having "a stake" in a number of green "investments" that he recommended attendees put money in rather than "sub-prime carbon assets" like "tar sands" and "shale oil." Moreover, Canadafreepress.com has also accused Al Gore along with Maurice Strong of advancing the alarmism of man-made global warming in order to cash in on the lucrative industry.
Not only does it appear that Al Gore is benefiting from his crusade but what really bothers me more than anything is that he personally doesn't do what he preaches. According to samuelatgilgal.wordpress.com it seems that Gore’s energy conservation does not apply to the rich, or at least not to him. In the past year, Gore’s home burned through enough electricity to power 232 average American households for a month. In fact, Gore’s Nashville home consumes 20 times more electricity than the average American household. Since this information surfaced last year, he did a “green” overhaul of his home last June. Now that his home is environmentally friendly, it uses 1,638 kWh more energy per month than it did the previous year. Gore has seen his personal wealth increase by an estimated $100, 000,000.00 ($100 million) since he began pushing global warming hysteria. This doesn't even take into account all the jet fuel he uses to fly from lecture to lecture advocating against Global Warming, no Al Gore is no Gandhi! I think I would have some semblance of respect for him if he, at the very least, did what he preached.
As a final note, I wrote to Al Gore to ask him why he wasn't advocating for the Air Car that runs on compressed air in France, all I received back was a form letter. So much for St. Al!

I always wonder how people like Al Gore can look into the mirror on their own face. Does he feel any disgust for himself, if anything decent is still present in his spirit? He himself knows all the truth, he isn't a fool. He is just making other people look like fools to buy all his insinuations.
I have no respect for him. Not a bit. I don't think he cares, though.
Thank you for your comments, I agree with you completely.
Good Hub, Brie
Anthropomorphic global warming is far from a cut and dried issue, and the polarization of opinion is not helpful.
I walked out of that movie after about 20 minutes - what a waste of my time.
Had to put not sure in your poll - Gllobal Warming is happening, but it is unclear whether humanity is having a measurable effect upon the process.
Hi Sufidreamer..on the other side of the pond! Yes, I agree. Personally, I think that it might be happening as well I just don't think that it is because of humanity. HOWEVER, I do think that we should stop using fossil fuels anyway because they make us dependent on foreign oil and because they polute the air and earth. I think that green technology is the way to go. Unfortunately, people like Al Gore just want to tax the public so that he can benefit personally from it. He is using this to further his agenda.
Hi Brie - I hope that Manhattan is treating you well!
It looks like we are on the same page - there are many other good reasons to reduce the use on oil, but both sides of the argument manipulate data. Sadly, there is often a partisan element to this, which is not productive.
I like green technology - we have to save a little more money and then we can buy solar water heating. Very cost effective! Mind you, we are having the wettest winter in living memory - so much for the Greek sunshine! :(
Yeah well, Manhattan is not being so nice...I'm still looking for work. Hopefully, you'll have a better summer over there in Greece. I am so gun ho on green technology, I think that the government should be subsidizing that instead of wars, but then of course, we wouldn't need them and I don't think that's what they want!
Still struggling on the job front - that is harsh. I hope that things work out for you. Mind you, a bright, sassy and articulate lady like yourself could make a living as a freelance writer, although it is a slow process.
I think that we agree about governments!
Brie,
Very well put. I am not a beliver in man made global warming. Could the earth be warming from natural causes. Why not? It has in the past. If the earth warms will it all be bad? I think not. I would probably invest in Canadian or Siberian Tundra Land. If global warming is true, the two largest land masses in the world are going to warm.
Even if one believes in global warming s/he should read Carbon Folly by Donn Dears. You can find a link to it at his web site, www.tsaugust.org . Donn points out one thing that cap and traders never mention. They want carbon reduction by 80 percent of 2000 emissions by the year 2050. However it is estimated the population of the US will grow by 140 million (46%) during the same time period.
The global warming cult is going to have to cap a lot of emissions in order to reach their goal. Me thinks collection a ton of bubbles will be an easier task.
Thanks Keith, I will look into the book...sounds interesting.
