Cold Turkey was the only method available to stop smoking when the Smokeout began

The Smokeout was started in 1971 when Arthur Mullaney decided to stop smoking cold turkey

Cold Turkey isn't usually a permanent solution because it takes 21 days to change a habit.

The smoking habit is multifaceted and takes time to change


To stop smoking permanently you will need to change your

  • behaviors
  • routines
  • learn how to deal with emotions
  • detoxify yourself from the nicotine
  • allow your body time to adjust
  • change your attitude about the process of quitting
  • learn how not to substitute food for smoking so you won't gain weight when you stop smoking

It is all about the mindset from cigarettes are a bad habit, to the concept that you are ADDICTED to nicotine, Once I made that jump, I was able to quit successfully.

This is a certified non-smoker from Lela's class in 1993. I am afraid

one day of no smoke will not cut it...attend Lela's class now...don't wait

anymore...do it now.....a graduate....
