Why Your Baby should Face You when in a Stroller

I want to have a baby, my husband and I are very excited to start a family! We have been looking into anything and everything baby related, from TV to the net, we want to encourage development and provide a good and happy home. I expect most people in our situation feel the same, anything that will promote healthy development and language skills and generally everything. We have looked at different parenting methods and have decided on the mix that seems good to us.

In my searches for all things baby I came across my number one gift at a baby shower! If you are a friend who would attend my baby shower my hearts desire would be a mommy facing stroller or buggy!

What is the big deal about a forward facing stroller? Surely any good sturdy stroller would be welcomed by new parents? Well I have seen loads of parents at the school I work at struggle to get their baby/toddler to sit in the strollers! They wiggle and cry and some of the sharp ones kick their shoes off into the road! They simply do not want to sit in the crazy things! Well I have read in a few places now that some of the reason for this is that the stroller faces away from mom, they can't see mom! It makes sense to me that for a little person new to the world not being able to see mom (safety and security) might be distressing. The world is a big place when you are a little person and all the noise and activity might be stressful if you cannot see a safety anchor (mom).

There is some evidence that by simply being able to see your baby as you walk will double the amount you actually talk to your baby. It seems vital to making that bond with your baby to talk to them and encourage them to learn language that way. I welcome anything that might encourage a new baby to laugh and interact with me, their mom.

There are various studies supporting this. Certainly if you're facing your baby you will both be interacting and this will strengthen the bond between mother and baby. It's worth noting that there are some pushchairs which can be switched from rear to forward facing.
