Black fin freash water sharks

Hi, I own one of these amazing fish. The first thing you need to do is make sure that the water temp in your tank is about 30 degrees. You may also want to make sure that your shark has a large enough tank that he does not stress out. DO NOT put into a 10 gallon tank. You would want a tank that is between 30 gallons to 50 gallons to keep him happy. Feed your shark blood worms because they do not eat flakes. If you have other fish with your shark make sure that they are sturdy. What I mean by this is make sure you have fish that are just as aggressive. Here are some of the fish I have with my shark. Blood parrot, Pleco, Red Devil, Convicts that are larger of course, 2 catfish, and one other pleco. Remember that your shark is mostly a bottem feeder this is why you need to feed him blood worms. If your shark gets sick look for signs that he is not moving as much during the day. Sharks move all the time. Look for ICK. Ick is a common disease in fish that live in aquariums. Ick appears on the fishes body that look like tiny grains of salt. If any one of your fish has these and it is not part of their normal coloration than go to your local pet store and ask for the medicine for it and they will direct you to the medicine you need. Ick can be passed on to the other fish and can kill them if not treated properly.

Water changes; do not do full water changes all the time because this will stress your fish and they could die. Every 2 weeks do a partial water change if needed I recomend doing it once a month for the partial and once every 2 months for a full water change. If you do a full water change make sure you use the water from the original tank and put about half into another and transport your fish there and than add some new water to that tank so your fish do not stress. Once you have gotten all your fish moved to the other tank completely empty your original tank and refill it. Make sure you change your filters too. Keep your fish in the other tank for a full 72 hours until the bigger tank is heated properly. Once this is done you can now transport you fish to the original tank.

I hope this helps you.

Well every one that looks it up on the internet will get different information. I own this fish and this is what I have done and he is happy as can be. I wrote from my experience not what I read in a book. I have 2 100 gallon tanks with all kinds of fish and the black fin shark is just one of them.

It could kill it if he gets bigger, If anything right now he will stress out a bit. You want your fish to be happy, I would sugest getting a bigger tank if you only have the one get a 30 gallon. or 25 gallon minimum.

Mine had ick and I turned the heat up to about 82 and added table salt. The table salt is what killed the ick once they fell off the fish. The heat gets the ick spots to fall off quicker before the fish dies. This worked and the ick medicines did not I think the ick meds killed my first sharks. They dont have scales so they obsorb the meds.

I hope this helps it really worked for me and I love my sharks.
