The North Carolina Transplant Foundation's (NCTF) mission is to help ease the financial burden of organ transplant patients before, during, and after transplantation. Besides helping pay for a patient's medication and travel expenses, NCTF also helps with many household expenses. The reality of organ transplant is that sometimes a patient must choose between paying for their life-saving anti-rejection drugs or the electric bill or rent.

NCTF has paid for a variety of household and living expenses in the four years it has been in operation, including:

• rent or mortgage
• utilities
• groceries
• personal care
• funeral expenses
• car payments
• car insurance premiums
• health insurance premiums
• Christmas gifts
• car repair

To qualify for financial assistance, a person must fulfill the following criteria:

• Be a North Carolina resident
• Be a UNOS-listed solid organ transplant patient
• Have received a solid organ transplant
• Have an emergency situation related to transplant
• Be referred by a social worker or coordinator on their transplant team

All assistance is paid directly to service providers (landlords, power companies, insurance companies, etc.) and is temporary.
