This article on dog allergies is not about humans suffering from their presence of dogs. It is about dogs and the dog allergies that they suffer. They say that pet owners are like their pets. Allergies in dogs are similar to those suffered by humans. In fact there are five different types of dog allergies. They are the most common one of food allergy, this is also the most, one suffered by human beings. Then there is the allergy to fleas, I know many humans that suffer from this as well. There is also contact allergy, bacteria allergy, and atopy. Some breeds are more susceptible to allergies than others. Dogs tend to show their allergies with skin problems.

Don't worry though, they are tried and tested ways of detecting whether your dog has an allergy and, like all human allergic reactions, there is treatments for your dog.

Dog food allergies

Any dogs can suffer from dog food allergies, dog skin allergies,or dog food allergies. They are the most common allergies that your dog can get. The symptoms can include scratching which is the most common symptom as normally shows the skin being irritated. There are so many different ingredients in your dog's food that can cause an allergic reaction. You have to watch out for when your dog is scratching too much, or starts to scratch an area that went previously unscratched.

Other symptoms of dog food allergies

Other symptoms include flu-like symptoms of coughing and sneezing, with discharges from the eyes and nose. Also watch out for anal itching, vomiting, diarrhea, shaking their heads or pawing at the ears.

Which food is your dog allergic to?

Usually when there is dog food allergic reaction, it is normally caused by one specific ingredient. So you must isolate the ingredient, which is not an easy task. One of the easiest solutions is just to switch the dog food, use a different brand for a while and see if you notice that the skin problem has cleared up. Your next option is to visit the local veterinarian.

Flea allergies

This is another instance where the dog will develop skin problems and might even begin to start chewing on certain areas. The main cause of the problem here is that the flea saliva irritates the dogs skin when the flea is sucking on the blood. One of the solutions to this problem is to treat the dog with flea powder or flea shampoo. If the dog has broken its skin or caused other problems because of its chewing it must have a course of antibiotics.

Bacteria allergies

Bacteria allergies are another one of the allergies in dogs that can be identified by skin conditions. Red blotches, pockets of pus, and other skin formations that are the typical signs. A visit to the veterinarian is a must.

Contact allergies

This is another allergy which shows up in the skin, and is caused by the dog coming into contact with allergens. Treatments include shampooing, steroids, and there are many natural cures available.

Atopy

Atopy allergies are normally caused by fleas, and can also be caused by many other things including typical products found around your home.

It is impossible to keep your dog allergy free. Allergy free dogs are those that are kept in big plastic bubbles.
