Dog carriers are usually hand bag- or suitcase-shaped bags used to carry the dog around. Given below are some reasons why you should use dog carriers .

- Dogs tend to get very excited when they are taken out on a trip. They will not think twice of running off to check out something attractive.

- It is your responsibility to keep your dog safe at all times. Just as kids are carried around in carriers, dog carriers are very useful in carrying the dog around.

 - Taking the dog around on foot is not possible at all times. Sometimes, it may not be safe to take the dog along on foot. Others may not appreciate a dog scampering around their feet.

 - Dog carriers are very useful in carrying the dog around with minimum efforts and minimum fuss.

 - Dog carriers are perfect for aged dogs that cannot walk for long distances. Further, it is easy to take your dog along in a car if it is kept in the safe confines of a carrier.

You can purchase the carrier from reputed pet stores. However, it is better to purchase the dog carrier online. You get great deals on the internet. Further, the carrier will be delivered right to your doorstep.

You get a lot of choice as far as design, make, colors and fabrics are concerned. The biggest advantage is that dog carriers are available at great prices on the internet.

The order can be placed from your home itself and the delivery will be made in just a few days after the payment is made.

You should pay special attention to the safety of your pet dog when purchasing the carrier. Ensure that there are no protruding edges that may injure your pet dog.

The base of the carrier should be sturdy one. The pet dog will never ever sit in the carrier again if the base gives way and the dog gets injured.

1. Check for some commonly used safety accessories when purchasing the carrier.

2. Zippers - The dog carrier should be reinforced using zippers. This will ensure that the carrier remains compact and the dog feels comfortable sitting in the carrier.

3. Collar clip - The collar clip is used to fasten the collar of the pet dog to the carrier itself. This will prevent the dog from jumping out of the carrier. The dog will remain in the carrier until the collar clip is unfastened.

4. Strong handles - What is the point of having a strong base if the handles are weak and give way when the dog is being carried around?

The dog will not differentiate between the handles and the base. It will simply reject the carrier and will not permit its use later.

Dog carriers are often used as a fashion accessory by the dog owner. People buy different dog carriers to match their attire and even their shoes.

Of course, the appreciation that the cute dog in the pretty carrier will evoke from others is an added advantage.

Hi there,

You've failed to mention the major negative that occurs with pet carriers like this it's called "small dog syndrome".

That's when a dog due to being carried at a height starts to think it owns humans, and when that happens...

We get an aggressive, misbehaved dog.

Thanks Brendon for reminding us to not overuse a dog carrier.

I like to use a dog carrier to:

Ride on Transit (can't legally do it without)

Keep my dog and my toddler from getting on each other's nerves in the car on long road trips. Much nicer and safer when little arms can't reach doggy, and little teeth have no need to defend. Lets us all travel sleepily and comfortably.

Riding with my dog in a taxi cab, and my mom's car.

Riding with my dog inside the bicycle cart with my toddler-again keeping them safely and happily in their own space. We can get to a nice hiking spot for a walk in the woods, where we otherwise couldn't get to as its too far from home for little legs to get there, and some folks don't have a car at home in the day. And biking there gets me exercise. (I need more exercise than a small dog and a toddler)

Yay!! Dog carriers aren't all that evil are they, when we use them for a good reason, not to 'baby' our dogs :)
