Commercial Dog Food May Be Killing Your Best Friend!

If you remember, back in March last year (2007) the FDA learned of contaminated pet foods that were imported from China. A massive recall was issued. Was your food in that recall? The FDA continues to update its site regularly. You can check it out by clicking the link in the previous sentence.

We had quite a scare with our Doberman through all this. The food we were feeding him was in the dog food recall. What we thought was a premium brand, turned out not to be. When we dug further into the matter, we found that not only was the food contaminated with melamine (luckily he didn't get sick from it-we caught it early enough) but the ingredients were horrific.

Harley was my husband's doberman, he brought him home when he fit in the palm of his hand. He slept on my husband's shoulder every night (on his pillow). Harley ended up growing to 90lbs. He was a magnificent looking dog, and was also my husband's best friend. They were inseparable.

Everyone who came into contact with Harley for the first time always thought he was a monster, but after he came up to them and flopped on them for a belly rub, they were all in love. He was a big baby at heart.

When he was five years old, last 4th of July, my husband was walking out to our garden with Harley trotting next to him. Next thing he knew Harley dropped to the ground, and whined at him once. My husband tried CPR, but he was gone within 5 minutes.

Since that time my husband and I grieved, and still are. We have, after much investigation and speaking with the veterinarian, determined Harley had died from Dilated Cardiomyopathy. This disease usually takes large breed dogs.

I have been determined to educate people on this disease and the care of their dogs ever since Harley passed. That is my gift to him, it is the least I could do. After all he provided my husband with an undying love, loyalty, friendship, and companionship for 5 years. He was quite the character, had a wonderful personality, as you will see shortly.

If you are feeding your dog the popular brands of dog food, most likely you are feeding her roadkill.

It has been found that dog food manufacturers have put road kill, diseased animals (including dogs), feces and last but not least preservatives that have been known to cause cancer into their foods.

Does this sound like something you want to feed your child? How about yourself? I didn't think so. Why would you feed your dog this? Your dog provides you with unending love, affection, companionship, never judges you, always forgives you, and looks for you to take care of her. This is much better than your typical husband or wife!

You have some choices if you no longer care to feed your dog these disgusting commercial foods.

A good choice would be home-made food. A lot of people are going this route, and also mixing in an organic formula on days they are too busy.

With home-made food, you know what ingredients are going into your dogs food, since you are buying the ingredients, and making it.
