Well they've finally gone and done it: concocted a dog GPS collar so that you can track Fido wherever he may roam. And roam he will! Now this is what I would call a fancy dog collar.

This article is a review comparison of all the most popular and best performing GPS tracking devices out there designed specifically for dogs.

Make no mistake about it: the Garmin Astro 220 is the superior dog GPS device here. People have reported many problems with several different Zoombak products including the one profiled below. In the end, these are great systems which could one day save the life of your wayward and curious pup. They'll at least save you countless winter nights spent going in circles looking for that rascal!

Garmin Astro 220 Dog GPS Tracker

Garmin's Astro 220 is the most sought-after dog GPS collar on the market. Of course, Garmin is simply the king. I personally wouldn't consider using any other company unless I was getting a deep discount.

Garmin has packaged the Astro 220 up in a few different ways. With the "Bundle" here is what you get:

  • The Astro 220 Dog Tracking GPS Receiver
  • The DC 30 Transmitter Collar
  • A Carrying Case
  • An AC Adapter
  • A Vehicle Power Cable
  • And a USB Cable

On your handheld device you'll actually be able not only to see where your dog is right now, but the trail he has taken to get there! You may find yourself letting that old dog get out of the yard on purpose, just so you can go track him down.

It updates every 5 seconds so only the fastest dogs will be able to outwit you anymore. And even then, not for long. When you deal with Garmin, you are really dealing with the best maker in the GPS field, even concerning our canine friends.

I had never heard of this company but I'll include it for completion's sake here. It is basically a cheap dog GPS tracker. Now, that's not to put it down. The one review states that it runs on AT&T's network which performs better than T-Mobile. That is why this woman went with PetSafe.

You will also have to sign up to an annual plan which costs somewhere around $200 per year. Device may be a bit bulky for some people's (and dogs') tastes.

This is another popular GPS dog collar. Of course, this only includes the collar and nothing else. You will have to sign up with Zoombak's website in order to track your puppy as he romps through the neighborhood hunting for squirrels and cats.

This is basically the low budget alternative to the superior Garmin 220 above. it surely is better than nothing at all, but it will present some challenges for the faint of heart, such as the spotty at best "Zones" feature.

The unit will update to the Internet in real-time. The company does not state how often, so we have nothing to compare against the Astro's five seconds in between dog GPS updates.

Sadly, I believe Zoombak is just renaming the model number in order to market this to dog owners. And of course strapping a collar on the GPS unit! If you read the reviews you will see that they are all referring to stuff having to do with GPS vehicle tracking, and not our poor little lost puppies.
