Dog Training Seminars
63Dog training seminars are necessary for continued education for certified dog trainers. Each year certified dog trainers will have to earn a certain amount of continuing education units in order to maintain their certificate for certain dog training organizations.
This continuing education for is so important since every year there are new studies and new examples of more effective training methods released. A good dog trainer will be up to date on the latest training methods and practices.
Dog training seminars are a great way to learn more about training with dogs than you can ever learn from just reading a book or even articles such as this online. These seminars are not only for certified dog trainers for dog training jobs in general but they are also ideal for the common dog owner that wants to learn how to improve their pet’s behavior.
You can attend dog training seminars on very specific aspects of dog training. For example you could attend a seminar that deals with agility training which is used for competing in agility trials, search and rescue dog training or you can attend just a real basic obedience training seminar that will provide tips and demonstrations of teaching your dog basic commands. These seminars are great for teaching the common man/woman how to get your dog’s attention and focus to prepare for at home training sessions with you.
Some training seminars are set up as camps. These dog camps are created to provide both a vacation and training lessons to help modify and improve your pet’s behavior. These seminar camps all vary from one to another. Some camps will have a very structured program in which daily events are set up each day and both owner and dog will attend workshops while other camps will offer a more relaxed camp which is less structured but more about socializing the dog with other dogs and people.
Dog training seminars can cost anywhere from $100-$500.00 per day. Most seminars last only one day and there is typically a certain amount of registration slots allowed in order to provide the most intimate setup that is ideal for the speaker to teach and to provide the speaker time to work one on one with the “students”.
Day seminars are usually set up to provide a morning lesson with a lunch break and then an afternoon lesson and sometimes followed by an evening one too.
Some animal control services provide free dog training seminars but are usually directed towards newly adopted animals. They may be more geared to teach basic dog manners and how to deal with bad behavior. You can check with your local animal control center to see if they offer free seminars.
