A stray kitten was found under the hood of Eunice Collin's SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe. She heard the sound of a cat all of a sudden and found the cat (named Tahoe) under the SUV. So she took it and kept him in a bedroom along with her 3 year old dachshund dog named Lillie.

Four days later Eunice found Lillie nursing the cat Tahoe. Eunice was surprised at this development and couldn't believe what she saw. Lillie has taken Tahoe as her baby and has been nurturing and taking care of him. They are very close it seems.

Eunice's veterinarian John Beck said this type of occurrence doesn't happen often; the kitten just got lucky and found a dog that showed maternal instincts. The presence of the young kitten induced a false pregnancy in Lillie and created a nursing response behavior in it.

"It made the hormones needed to produce milk," Beck said. "Now, I'm sure the cat obviously had it in mind the dog was (his) mother."

It is another miracle in nature, wonder how will they get along with time.

We had a puppy and kitten who grew up together. They were insanely close: slept together, ate together, played together. Then they were away from each other for about six months, when they were reunited, they ran towards each other (like in a cheesey movie) and tumbled around on the ground in a big ball. They wouldn't leave each other's sight for a long time. Very sweet.

Thats sweet to know Stacie, glad they got along so well and were able to remember each other. When they are grown they usually don't get along but is nice to know this.

What an amazing story. The maternal response got the dog to *lactate* for the cat? Wow.
