Useful Guidelines to Potty Train your Pet Dog

Owning a pet is a fun experience. A dog proves to be a very good companion and is considered to be a man’s best friend. Training your dog can be made as much fun as playing with him. All you need to remember are a few tips and guidelines to train your dog effectively in a short span of time. This is a quick guide to dog toilet training.

Potty training your pet dog can be quite annoying and troublesome task. Don’t worry! Here is some help for you. Your dog can be taught the right place to relieve himself, by using the tips given here:

  • Make a strong resolution to potty train your pet dog. You need to keep this is mind that some dogs may be slow learners. You need to give enough time to your pet to behave as required. At the same time, you need to be patient with the occasional slip ups, which may happen during the course of the training.

  • Select an appropriate place for the dog to eliminate his body waste. The place can either be outdoors like a lawn or corner of a fence or it may be inside your house. You need to make the dog familiar with the selected spot to do his chores. Guiding your dog to a similar place time and again to pee and poop will enable your dog to associate that place with relieving himself.

  • Set up a command for your pet’s urinating and defecating needs. Use command such as “Outside”, “Pee here”, “Poop here”, “Do it here” to communicate to your pet, the place to eliminate his wastes. Once the dog becomes familiar with the command, he will surely do as desired. Do remember to praise your dog every time he gets it right.

  • Clean the mess created by your dog inside the house. Do not allow the stench to linger inside the house, as it will only encourage the dog to do it again. If a dog can smell its pee or poop inside the house, he may think that it is a right place to do his activities. Thus, it is essential to thoroughly clean the dog’s pee and poop evidence. Scold your dog for his misdoings, but never use physical punishment.

  • Restrict your pet’s moment during night time to avoid your dog from urinating and defecating inside the house at night. Set up a small boundary for your pet during the night. Most of the pets will not spoil their personal space.

Repetition is the key to make your dog understand what is expected out of him. Dog toilet training need not be hard. Once your dog clearly understands it and develops the habit of peeing and pooping at the appropriate place, you will never have to repeat yourself!
