Dogs Sensing Health Changes Explained

Isn't it interesting when our animals can sense changes to our lives and to our health? One of my dogs could sense that I was going away weeks before I went and would immediately go on a hunger strike until I returned. I often had to take him with me in the end.

Now dogs are being used to 'sense' cancer and other health conditions in humans and can actually be more accurate or sense a problem earlier than most medical devices. But how?

First of all animals, including dogs have a much keener sense of their world, with extremely sensitive noses and ears many stories of animals sensing earthquakes, Tsunami's and illness abound right through history and in every land on earth.

I also beleive that animals are able to sense the energy around them much more accurately than we humans. It's easy and every one has done this at one time or another. Think of a time when you have sensed that your friends have been fighting, even though they act as normally as possible while you are there. Have you ever walked into a room and just known something negative had happened there at some time or another? Well animals I am sure are able to tap into this sixth sense even more keenly than we are, sublte shifts in the energy of the land or of their owners tell them what is coming. Like my little dog when he knew I was going to leave him, before I had even begun to pack.

Medically speaking dogs and other animals, can also smell the chemical and hormonal changes to our bodies. Every chemical reaction in our body emits an odour of some kind, pregnancy is espcecially pungent to animals like dogs as the sexual hormones like progesterone which becomes very high in pregnancy are also the most pungent. This is how an animal can tell when another animal is ready to breed, give birth and it is how they can tell which sex another animal is. It is also how they mark their territory.

Animals also communicate mostly with body language and pick up on the most subtle of signals taken from your movements. Women naturally begin to be more protective and also more relaxed during pregnancy, they move differently and breathe differently and your pet would be able to notice all of these changes and know what was going on.

My dogs have always known when I was sad, or needed comforting and have often sat cuddled up with me during a cold or 'flu.

So if your dog or cat knows you are pregnant this is why, they are using all their senses to come to an conclusion about your state, which is very important to them as you are their family and they love you and want to know everything about you.

Love them back and reassure them that they are not being replaced, they can get a bit jealous, just like other children you will have to make time for your pet so it doesn't feel left out.
