Small dogs are ideal for kids. Dogs that are good with kids are amazing and it is equally amazing that many people don’t believe so. Small dogs are very fascinating for kids since they are something like dolls but alive. Dogs that are good with kids keep children happy and curious. There are many lessons to be learned by both creatures. Being a fast learner, small dogs easily make children’s needs their own and they therefore easily become friends.

Parents never seem to come to an agreement about the age below which children should not be left with small dogs. As long as children can get along with dogs easily, one can conclude that their safety is guaranteed (certainly, you must be sure that the dog is friendly to your kid). Small dogs are often playful and hate staying alone. When children are around, they feel appreciated. The same can be said of children although in the case of children the matter may get a little complicated. It is not good to leave a child alone.

A child that is not walking ought to be always closely guarded. Dogs that are good with kids will notice a change when all of a sudden a child has been abandoned and there is no one around. At such a time, the dog can alert a caretaker.

White Scottish Terrier

The Skye Dandie Dinmont and the Skye Terriers are breeds that the Scots used to categorize their canines. Later on there was a West Highland White Terrier which came in as a separate breed and was declared to the category of the Skyes.

This type of a breed is really liked by the owners and it is commonly known as a “Westie” in Scotland. They have a white undercoat that is thick and furry. The coat of hair grows up to two inches, it has a wiry texture and they enjoy staying indoors or in closed fences. The approximate weight of the Westie is 13-22 pounds and a height of one foot.

Their temperament can be told from their behavior which involves barking, digging, and need in companionship. If you want your Westie to become the best terrier ever, ensure that it undergoes proper training and handling. This will make it

  • understand and employ a nice mien to children
  • attain liveliness
  • develop guarding skills
  • chase but never hurt cats
  • tender toward friends and strangers

If you are in charge of breeding this breed of terriers, you should bear in mind that Westie

  • is susceptible to skin problems
  • is attacked by jawbone diseases
  • suffers from a common kneecap disease
  • has common liver diseases
  • can easily get heart disease
  • is susceptible to deafness
