Dogs of the World

Canis familiaris. Man's best friend. The dog-human bond has existed for 10-15 thousand years, from the beginning, where man recognized dogs to be very much like themselves-pack animals and hunters.

Imagine our primitive ancestors with a taste for meat gathered together hunting down an antelope--maybe a dog watching on the sidelines--or coming forward at the scent of meat roasting over a fire. Dogs are fiercely loyal and trusting and develop deep bonds with humans. Throwing a dog a few scraps would surely be a sign of invitation to join the human pack.

There has been a lot of Dog Photos on show this last week, and the suggestion is one should tell about these Dogs of the World. An affort was made to actually give the total of different varieties throughout the World. It Was not the easiest figure to arrive at. A definitive number count by the time the various subsections, could be considered was hard to pin down. Perhaps one of our more knowledgeable Hubbers may be able to offer the total number. Look forward to hearing of this number?

The noblest of Dobermans was REX, He would not hurt you. Thoughts go back to two things: -

1. Wrestling in the Dinning Room with ceiling to floor windows

Rex and the supposed boss got very close to those windows and it happened, man and dog went through the glass. Rex struggled to present himself to the glass first. Window broke and he did not get cut nor did the guy who was wrestling him.

2 Sick in bed and the office sent an unknown person to the Sick person in bed to get some papers signed. Rex asleep on the landing between floors. He woke up and shook hands or paw with unknown visitor and went back to sleep.

I love dogs. When I was real young we had a husky/shepherd mix and she was the best/smartest dog in the world. When I can afford it I want to get a Siberian Husky. Great hub.

I'm a animal lover, had dogs all my life. I have an American Bulldog. When she was a pup, I put her in a dog show and she won 3rd place. I don't have time to put her in shows anymore but she is a great companion. Good hub!

What a humungous hub! I had a beautiful collie in Tasmania called Shari! She loved to be loved and was really quite hurt if you did not notice her! A gentle personality!

AuraGem and Rudra,

I actually believe that all dogs can smell fear, or you are frightened of them.

Naturally if you love them, they know that and respond accordingly

Thank you both.
