Dogtra 280NCP Platinum Collar Review
I am a professional dog trainer and use electronic collars everyday in training. They are used for house dogs to working dogs and hunting dogs. Dogtra has come out with a new line of collars and the first in the series is the Dogtra 280NCP.
I have tested and trialed the new Dogtra 280NCP Platinum electronic dog training collar for the past 4 months and have given my review below:
The Dogtra line of dog products continues to fulfil my expectations for training companion dogs to full service and hunting and field trial canine.
While the Dogtra 280NCP states it is for low to medium power, I found that it is more than adequate to control a stubborn dog in the field.
Its 1/2 mile range is long enough for my training. Here is what I really like about the new features with this dog training collar:
- It has a battery level indicator to let me know when it is getting low. This is extremely important for me when I plan to go out to a field so that I know if the collar will have enough battery to last for the amount of time I plan to train.
- The LED indicator allows me to see in increments what level of correction I am at even in low light.
- The fully waterproof feature of both the collar (receiver) and the transmitter is greatly appreciated. When in the field with lakes and water having the security of knowing the electronic collar will work is reassuring.
- As with all Dogtra products the vibration only button, nick and constant are great so you can let the know know exactly what is needed by either a quick focus with the vibration, a slight correction with the nick or a longer duration with the constant.
- The transmitter is not super large so that it is bulky to carry around.
- You can turn off the display to save ore battery life
- The Nick and Continuous buttons are on the side where you naturally grab the transmitter making is easier to grasp and give a correction.
The MSRP price of $224 for the Dogtra 280NCP is slightly higher than the entry level Dogtra 175NCP but it delivers more bells and whistles so is worth more in price.
This dog collar was used in my training with: Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, australian Shepherds, Jack Russell Terriers and Brittany Spaniels. .
