Dominion Theology and Kingdom NOW
Dr. Kluane Spake
Dominion Theology is a very popular theological viewpoint particularly for those involved with the concept of the Third Day Church.
The most important and first thing to know about Dominion theology is that it illustrates how BEFORE the literal coming (appearing, parusia) of Christ, the believer will begin to take (have) dominion over every area of their life.
Dominion was (and is) the mandated purpose of creation given to humanity in Genesis. And dominion MUST be regained before Jesus returns. Acts tells us that Jesus waits in the heavenlies until the restoration of all things. Dominion is one of the first thing given and lost.
- Dominion rule (radah) was the BLESSING that the Creator gave His human creation.
- Dominion Theology is also known by some as "Reconstructionism" or "Reformation theology."
The primary essence of Dominion Theology is that eventually the entire world will see and comply with the purposes of God until it becomes a full expression of God's Glory and His Divine intentions for this earth. And... that the Church (corporate) will rise up and lead this Kingdom on earth in the areas that are comprised in government, society, culture, religion, and ethics.
Taking dominion implies that we who represent the Lord, will eventually reign with Christ over the earth (as Rev. 5:10 says). It means that this ruling and reigning is supposed to begin NOW. The primary truth of Dominion Theology is WHEN we will rule and reign with Christ. Lilke we said - it should start NOW. We should take every promise of God and see it as fully engaged for us in this present era.
Acts tells us that Jesus is held in the heavenlies until the restoration of all things under His feet. He will not and can not physically return to earth until the church establishes the likeness and measure of God’s ruling authority here upon this earth.
Jesus gave us His authority and with it, we are supposed to reclaim, restore, organize, and rule over the earth -- not only in a spiritual sense, but through economical, political, educational, and social reform as well.
Most of you remember that Jack Hayford wrote a famous song called "Majesty" that tells us to "Glorify Christ Jesus, the King." It goes on to say that His "Kingdom authority flows from His throne unto His own." That means that Jesus gave HIs authority to us and it comes to us from HIs throne.
Dominion theology is based upon three basic tenants or beliefs:
1. The dominion given by God to humanity was stolen by the devil through the temptation of the garden;
2. What Jesus accomplished on the Cross released to humanity the unexpected method that God used to give us back the ability to take dominion. Jesus overcame all things at the cross. The cross nulified the power of the devil. The cross brought about the Finished Work. It is the job of the believer to apprehend and activate that truth and stand in dominion.
3. Jesus won’t and can't physically return until the believer (the Church) takes dominion and establishes Her place of rule and authority. The Christian should rise up and take influence (dominion) over culture and over their society through social action. This victorious ruling authority and presence will be part of the release of the promised Glory of God that will fill the earth ( 2 Thes. 2:1-12);
The rule of the believer and the Church.
(a) Jesus is already pleased with us. Knowing this, we can pour out His love and acceptance and influence to the world around us.
(b) Dominion Theology teaches that the mission and purpose of the Christian believer goes beyond the spiritual transformation of individuals and moves into a corporate mandate to change society. This concept is in direct opposition to the objectives of secular humanism.
(c) Motivation to live in a Godly manner (Titus 2:13) is directly connected with the privilege and command to restructure our society and surroundings for greater good.
(d) Health, wholeness, and prosperity are all vital parts of our legacy.
(e) We are saved by faith. Our works never change the way Good views us, but as a consequense of the joy of our salvation, we embrace our destiny and help set up the Kingdom for the purposes of eternal reign.

what about the notion.. that we have to wait until we're 'changed' (glorified saints) before we can change the world??...
how does the 'manifestation of sons' happen? when?
some say we are in the day of rest '7th day' from adam.. and that we have to rest from works and don't get caught up in the world until you have the mind of christ and we are glorified..?
Humility and service, stewardship of all of creation, are these not what we are called to?
I feel very uncomfortable with the triumphalism implied in "dominion".
It sounds very like the "vision" of the violent people of many different faiths who claim "authority" from their faith to use any means to achieve "dominion" over those who disagree with them or who follow a different path.
In the Book of Micah 6: 8: You have been told, O man, what is good and what Yahweh requires of you: to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
Jesus taught that the law of love is the supreme law, and that love is a humble love, a serving love, not a dominating or triumphalist love. A love that accepts others: "I am among you as one who serves".
Love and peace,
Tony
I believe that we can be "humble" servants and walk in dominion. Humility demands that we fulfill our destiny -

I love the fact that we do have dominion over evil; however, the Lord says we will be persecuted and hated, that evil will prosper and we are not to marvel. Some will have to face death, so I keep in mind that the beast and false prophet will be cast into the Lake of Fire when Satan is bound, thus all evil will be cut off when the millennial reign begins. I think now is a testing and trying of our faith in preparation for our reign with Him, for we will be as gold tried by the fire and our character will be solid. Any thoughts on this?
