Has Patriotism become obsolete ?
Perusing the news services on line as I do with great frequency , I was just overwhelmed by the craziness that has become our once great nation . We live In an age where patriotism and standing your ground , Is now frowned upon and perceived as pure unadulterated hate .
Everybody Is worried about whether they are liked or not and hide behind the veil of political correctness , because they do not want to offend anybody or so they say. The term that comes to mind for me Is cowardly. And yes I do think that people who constantly tout political correctness need a backbone . To those of you who believe In this type of Ideology I say what Is your big fear ? I hope to offend , I want to be divisive ! The outrage grows exponentially within me daily . Everybody still wants to live In the USA In spite of the troubles we have had over the last couple of years . And because most of the people who come here still live under the Illusion that we are a country that stands for all principles that are Important , the main one being freedom . And the national pride we used to display so proudly Is now looked upon as being oppressive and mean spirited by the spineless PC crowd !
I would like to present to you an example of what I am referring to here as well as other nuggets of stupidity that are now more commonplace than any of us would like to admit
The 4th of July must suck In Oregon
In May of 2005 In Medford Oregon a Mexican flag was being flown on Display with Old Glory and In fact over our beloved flag at the Oregon Employment Department In Medford . When citizens both locally and abroad got wind of this , the Mexican Flag was Immediately removed , but also the American Flag came down too. Because according to office manager Jean Work they did not want to offend anybody . I say WTF ? I thought the American flag represented our country . We still are the USA right ?
Then In the town of Albany Oregon on October 12th 2009 management of the Oaks Apartments In Albany set down a rule that residents were no longer allowed to fly the American flag at their Apartment nor display one as a bumper sticker on their car . Management of the Apartment complex told residents that the American Flag posed problems . One being that the American flag might offend someone and that we now lived In a diverse country so It would be Inappropriate ! Maybe I missed somethin here does the useless UN now run the country ?Or are we still the USA ? I say kick Oregon out of any federal funding until these people get their heads screwed on straight ! Do they still celebrate the 4th of July there or might that offend somebody ?
And as I am sure Is no surprise to you the ACLU said the American flag ban violated no constitutional criteria . As you know I feel nothing but complete disdain for this Orginization and would love nothing more then to meet these Individuals for a less then pleasant ( for them ) discussion . Since the Initial ban by a cowardly woman named Barb Holcomb who was the manager of the complex the ban has been lifted . Thanks to the outrage of local citizenry and the local news media who went on the attack of this cowardly policy .
We have a cross In the Mt Soledad area that Is under fire because It Is a memorial but the politically correct crowd says It favors one religion over another . And on top of that the good ole " Separation of Church and State Issue " rears Its ugly ass head again . Separation of church and state Is one of the biggest lies ever perpetuated by the PC crowd who Insist It Is written Into our constitution , what a bunch of chumps ! When the liberal professors In your Universities start spoutin off on that one , tune em out ! In spite of the fact the cross Is a landmark and a symbol that means so much to the community here , the PC crowd Is still trying to litigate It out of our local culture here so they can ruin It for the local citizenry . Including my cowardly local congressperson Susan Davis who has to be one of the most spineless and useless people breathing oxygen ! OK I feel better now gettin that out of my system ! Lets move onto a couple of other snippets ,that caught my attention !
The PC cowards want this removed too !
A couple of last Items
Read yesterday that 106 banks have failed so far In the US by the end of the business day Friday . Maybe we should give them a bailout or somethin like that. Oh yeah thats right , we have tried that already ! 24 banks were siezed by the Fed In July , 11 In September and so far In October . 181 banks were taken over In 1992 . I am a glass Is half full guy , so I guess things are gettin better , right ?
It has been determined that the healthcare bill done by the house will surpass 1 Trillion over 10 years or as converted to the eurodollar $12.56 ,no biggie right ? And according to our current administration we need to get It down to 900 billion . And also according to our new boss this will not add to our deficit . This for me poses a couple of questions .
1. What Is a 100 billion more anyway ? Our dollar wont buy a pack of gum anymore .
2. I am no accounting major but 900 billion Is alot of bank ! How would that not add to a deficit ?
So that Is about It for now hubbers . I just had to get a few things out of my system . I hope I did not offend anybody , I want you to like me !

Tony...If I were to see on a government building any foreign flag flying above Old Glory I would immediately rip it down and defy anyone to remove our American flag...the Feds work for us, and that flag is the symbol of our blood {Red ), purity { White ), and loyalty { Blue ), of all Americans.....That Jean Work, a federal employee, is a real piece of work...someone needs to educate her on the history and tradition of these United States...We are Americans first, diverse second...English language first, native tongue next..We have a distinct American culture; join it or leave it...Thanks for this...Larry

My father was not an american, but he loved and respected America! As a foreigner he valued the wars it fought against dictators and oppressive regimes. What is worrisome to me is America's enemies seem to lie within. Good hub friend!

I do like you but not for your political correctness no doubt. I like your ability to call a horse a horse and a horses *** a horses ***. Is it PC or integrity? PC means nothing, integrity means everything. Whether it is the flag, a flag, a cross, or no cross is totally irrelevant. The relevance lies within the integrity which lies within diversity which lies within re-spect and respons-ability. you have all of those characteristics and have depicted them well here... Great hub my friend! If any of these people you have written about said they like me, I would always wonder if it was PC....with you saying it, it has value and means something. To Start, Great Hub, and the ACLU is full of Crap. Constitutionally denying the right of anyone to display Our Flag is a violation of free speech. Flying the colors of another nation over ours is heresy. These nut-jobs are really becoming tiresome.

My father has an old flag he recieved about 20 yrs ago. He keeps it neatly folded and bagged until the holidays. When Obama said he was in 57 states my father almost fell off his chair.
This Potus has played golf and tennis more that he has met with Generals. Today he was here in Jacksonville, and spent a whole 30 minutes with our service men. He said the reason he's delaying making any decision on Afganistan is because he will not send them in harms way until it's absolutly neccessary. Then he proceeded to fly to Miami for two days of campaining. It's a disgrace!
I say, send him a 'pink slip' too!

As a transplant to America, I think America should worry less about what a few minorities/dissidents think and be proud of its tradition. In a bid to please everybody, America has forgotten the roots that make it such a great country. Fly the flag, let the Cross stay--American is based on patriotism and Christian values and it should not have to apologize to a few who disagree in the name of PC.

The people who do this stuff are the real enemies. None of those traitors in DC would be there if it wasn't for them. I've heard a lot of stories like this tony and it just sickens me. The first amendment is the right to offend - after all, why would you need an amendment to say something nice? Great hub :)
Tony, this was a good hub. As usual you speak what many of us feel. What are these flag people trying to say... Every country can have a flag except the U.S.A.? Although I am Latina, I am first an American. I am glad to see signs of "English usage" being required and reinstated in some areas. And what really gets me is the symbol of the cross being attacked. It does represent what the absolute majority of Americans are... a nation that believes in God. I would be in front of the pack against anyone who tried to take a stand against all the crosses of our soldiers at Arlington. It is good to see, actually wonderful to see, that there are many of us that don't totally agree with PC.
On our leaders in DC. I am still holding back my opinion. The end result is yet to be determined. I don't know that anyone else could have stopped the crises as quickly as it was stopped by Obama. The bank failures were to be expected. What does bother me is whether Wall Street is going back to the same ol' same ol' under the current administration. That yet remains to be seen.
Madame X as usual you and I are on the same wavelength , I too am getting damn sick and tired of the PC crowd !

If you really want to put a craw in the a$$ of The people at the state level in Oregon, remind them of the actions and statements of Ms. Works, then refer them to United States code title 36 CHAPTER 10 SECTION 174(e) and USC 36 (10) section (c)and (g). Then let them know that you are also advising the National Media that the State of Oregon is refusing to follow the Codes in question. It should really make em mad. BTW I am not PC I'm a Mac.

Remove the American flag? This is not just stupid, but crazy. How would flying OUR flag in OUR country offend anyone?
It always surprises me though that most people seem to beleive that our country was based on and meant to protect Christianity. Our constitution was meant to provide freedom of religion in this country, ANY RELIGION. However, in the last few decades, the politically correct seem so worried about protecting other people's religions, that they seem to be taking away the freedom and rights of the Christians. I don't know why we can co-exist.

I wish someone would do something that stupid around here, One day not long ago I attended the funeral of a soilder as part of a group known as the Patriot Guard (patriotguard.org) We stood with American Flags to protect the family from a group of protestors....
On my way home that day I see a flag advertising FREE CHECKING above the American Flag at a local bank.... I go inside clad in leather from riding my bike and they said yeah we will get to it, I said no it will be done now... I proceed to leave the bank and stand in front of it and pointed it out to everyone entering the bank... I said this is the placve you want to trust your money??? I also show people the prayer card from the Hero I honored earlier that day asking what about respecting him??? Many people left the bank that day... The bank called the cops... I told them to try and arrest me, and how would it look in court that I was standing up for the American Flag... the cops went into the bank, the TV Station showed up... and within minutes the American Flag was the only flag on that pole...
Look as a nation we need to take back our country. And stand up to anyone he tells us different...

great hub - I have also heard of people at work who were forced to remove the flags at their desks because they offended others who were here from other countries. If it offends these people so much then why are they even here?

So I will just say that everyone that is opposed to this madness should fly their flags every day. Maybe eventually there will be enough of us doing it where our sentiments will get noticed. I am English to the core of my being. I couldn't change that fact if I wanted to- which I don't. I don't especially like the sight of a Union Jack or any other flag. Why not? Because too many people cling to their nationality like drowning sailors to a scrap of wood.
The worth of a person is located in who they are not the country they were born in.
Why is desperate flag waving by people with low self esteem a problem? Well check out the history books. Napoleon, Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Senator Joe McCarthy are just a few people worth googling.
Get rid of that flag and go boldly into the world as a human being.
Why cling to a flag you would definitely be In the minority In your thinking which I find completely erroneous . This has nothing to do with self worth or self esteem .Yhy do you consider pride In ones country clinging ? That I would find Interesting to know . As for some of the darker characters you have mentioned all I have to say Is pride and patriotism are not fanaticism .
