Donate junk car

Do you have an old car in your driveway? Are you thinking about what to do with it? Did you know that you have several options, even if the car is not in working order?

Instead of leaving that peace of metal to rust away, you can donate your junk car to charity or you can sell it to a junk car buyer. Either option is better than not doing anything.

There are many reason to donate a junk car:

• It was involved in an accident and has been written off by the insurance company
  
• It has no little or no trade in value
• It is a lemon and you don´t want to sell it
• You don´t want to go through the trouble of selling the car
  
• It is a hazard in your driveway
  
• It will probably cost more to fix the car than it is worth
  

You can of course try to sell your junk car. You will have to create and publish ads on several online site, or even pay for an ad in your local paper.

You have to deal with the buyers, handle their objections and answer their questions, schedule times to show the car, and all other aspects of selling the car.

All this for a few hundred dollars, if that.

Another option is to sell the car to a junk car buyer. While this will save you most of the trouble, the value you receive will be lower.

Instead of selling it, donating your junk car to charity could be a much better option. The process is pretty straight forward. You usually fill out an online form at one of the many sites, they will email or call you to arrange for a pick-up. And finally they tow your car away at no cost to you.

You can even donate your car if it was involved in an accident or if it is not in running condition or didn´t pass the emissions test.

There are many benefits if you decide to donate your car:

• You get a tax deduction - You can claim a tax deduction of $500, or more if the car sells for a higher value at auction. Make sure the charity is a 501(C)(3) organizations for you to be able to claim the tax deduction.
  
• No trouble or cost to you - The car will be picked up at no cost to you and you don´t even need to be home. You can still donate the car even if you don´t have the title.
  
• Help a charitable cause - The proceeds from the sale of your car will be used to help well know charities. A few of the organizations that accept car donations will let you pick which charity your funds go to.
  

Not all the companies that accept junk cars are non-profit organizations and some will only donate a small portion of the proceeds to charity (sometimes as little as 10%).

One charity that I recommend for donating is the Purple Heart Foundation. They are a non-profit charity involved primarily in helping veterans and their families.
