Registering for gifts is a great way to ensure you don't end up getting one item from multiple people. You should register for at least 3 different places. Gift registries are a great way to make buying your wedding gifts much easier for your guests. Sometimes, instead of registering for gifts, people ask specifically for donations toward the wedding and honeymoon to help cut down costs in the end. This is a great idea and becoming more and more popular. It is common to have a donation box located on the gift table at the wedding reception however, if you only ask for donations as gifts, you will end up with much more money toward your wedding debt.

If you are to register for gifts, make sure that you have many items from each pricing category. If you only list the expensive items that you wish to have but can not afford yourself, it gives the guests an obligation they may not be able to fulfill. Usually items that you put on your gift registry are for your new home as a married couple. This is also another reason just asking for donations can be a better idea for you.

Since many couples live together prior to getting married these days, you likely have most of the items people would normally give for wedding gifts. Some people may think it is "rude" to ask for money for the wedding. If this is the case with people you know, maybe have just a small gift registry for must have items but specify that you are looking for help covering wedding costs. Make sure to have the money box located at the front of the reception hall where people will enter to ensure they can see it easily. Below is a list of items that are common to put in your gift registry from all different pricing categories.
