Now, before we get to the really fun part of this hub...
that is to say, the Art History Lesson part of it...
There is first a certain duty I must fulfill... which I admit, will be only a little less fun than the Art History Lesson itself!
Even more good news-- in the process, we will find out what, exactly, is setting those three ladies above all aglow with excitement and anticipation.
No doubt, gentle reader, you were already asking yourself the question, "Why are those three damsels in such a rush to acoustically accouter themselves, that one of them has even conched herself on the head?
Well, wonder no longer!
Because it's my distinct pleasure
to
answer all your questions by announcing a hot new sensation appearing for the first time ever on Hubpages!
Introducing the hottest new act in centuries!!
Yes, wild and crazy Art lovers everywhere, it's my distinct pleasure to introduce....
back by popular demand....
(for the first time ever....)
THE hottest girl group of our time....
the Kitty Cat Divas!!!
They're here today, to perform,
from their new multiplatinum album "BOO ! GO ! ROW !!",
their smash hit single
cover of "Don't Cha"
(which is already familiar to audiences worldwide courtesy the fabulous Pussycat Dolls).
So, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please, GIVE --- IT--- UP--- FOR----
THE KITTY CAT DIVAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(the crowd goes wild)
DON'T CHA WISH YOUR GIRLFRIEND WAS HOT LIKE ME
DON'T CHA WISH YOUR GIRLFRIEND WAS A FREAK LIKE ME
DON'T CHA, DON'T CHA, BABY
DON'T CHA WISH YOUR GIRLFRIEND WAS RAW LIKE ME
DON'T CHA WISH YOUR GIRLFRIEND WAS FUN LIKE ME
DON'T CHA, DON'T CHA
So, who are the Kitty Cat Divas?
A clue to their identity is contained in their album title: "Boo ! Go ! Row!!".
The album title, a seemingly nonsensical collection of one syllable nonsequiturs, is actually a play on words, a pun, a homophone (sort of), for the name of the artist Bouguereau.
We'll get back to Mssr. Bouguereau all in good time.
Now if you thought Madonna looks good at 50-ish, try wrapping your mind around how good the KCDs look at well over 100! Yes, they are 19th century girls living in a 21st century world.
To what do they attribute their youthful looks and high octane energy? "Clean living," replied one, during an interview. "A strict work out regimen," intoned another. "And a highly controlled climate," chimed in a third. "You have to keep your eye on the hygrometer needle at all times!"
"Of course," explained yet another member of the group, "going from 19th to 21st century, sometimes it's a little bit of a culture shock. And sometimes things get lost in translation. For example, the other day, I got so mad-- I was incensed!-- I couldn't help overhearing somebody talking to his buddy about that OTHER group" [translation: the KCD's rivals, the Pussycat Dolls]. "He told his friend he was a real fan of the PCDs and then he said--- or at least I thought I heard him say-- that those girls really know how to shake their PUTTI."
" I marched over to him. 'Young man!' I said, "wipe that awful leer off your face right now!! You think it's funny to talk about shaking PUTTI?!!! Why, of all the inhumane, barbaric, monstrous, and inhuman things to do, much less even put into words. Why some of my best friends are PUTTI."
"Their sweet, cherubic faces, with those rosy dimpled cheeks and big exquisite eyes, framed by tiny, cute, soft fluffy wings. And they are such consummate professionals when we work with them while making any of our videos. Don't ever let me hear of you speaking of such things again, do you hear me?"
"Well, the young man just stood there, stunned, perhaps a little overawed at seeing me, a diva after all, in such a towering fury. I hardly see how I could have acted otherwise, given the circumstances, and yet, when I think back on his rather unresisting and sheepish reaction to the dressing-down I gave him, I can't help thinking he wasn't such a bad young man after all. Maybe it was all just a misunderstanding? Perhaps people these days simply don't really get a chance to get to know PUTTI, who can say? Maybe Hello Kitty has stolen the hearts of the people from the Putti. Perhaps I will start a line of "Hello Putti" fashion accessories and set things to rights!"
When asked about The Artist Formerly Known as William-Adolphe Bouguereau, the girls stared rather blankly for a moment (another lost-in-translation moment, I suppose). They stole sidelong glances at each other, then one of them said, "Well, he STILL is known as William-Adolphe Bouguereau, isn't he?" Rather than waste precious time explaining the nuances of this pop-culturally dependent witticism, I conceded that Bouguereau is still known as Bouguereau. At that the girls brightened, visibly relieved. They warmed quickly to explaining to me a little bit about the artist, speaking with avidity of how he'd touched their lives and careers. "Mssr. Bouguereau is a gentleman and an artist of the highest refinement, and his artistic career is like a lustrous gem of the first water," spoke the lead KCD. "Just look at how he captures our dancer's lines in every pose, selecting the most expressive instant to imortalize on the canvas! Look at the complex choreography that is vibrant, yet never busy. And you have to appreciate that in our 19th century videos, unlike your 21st century videos, the image does not change. Yet Mssr. Bouguereau vividly imbues each canvas with movement, with the breath of life."
"I wish we could talk longer about Mssr. Bouguereau, but we're due to start rehearsal for a new number we're putting together," cut in another KCD. "But I do hope that any of our fans-- or even any of the PCD's fans [here she made a face] --who are interested in learning more about William-Adolphe Bouguerea and his art will take the time to do a little research. You'll be richly rewarded for the effort! One good place to start is at this link:" (The link she gave me is as follows:)

Well, all good things must come to an end, and I watched the KCDs depart for their rehearsal. And even in this hub, I guess that's about all the time we have for now for getting up close and personal with the Kitty Cat Divas.
We'll close with a little morsel of Kitty Cat Diva trivia-- Their favorite quote: "We were framed!"
By the way...
If you've never seen the actual Pussycat Dolls video for "Don't Cha", this hub might not make complete sense. (Then again, even if you have, this hub probably has its distinctly nonsensical moments). Be that as it may, I did put in a video thing-a-ma-jig below for the Pussycat Dolls original "Don't Cha" video. However, it won't play since its embedding seems to have been "disabled by request". (Not by MY request, trust me). You can always check the actual video out by searching Youtube or by going to the official PCD website at http://www.pcdmusic.com/
P. S.
One more thing:
It appears (fingers crossed for luck) that I was able to successfully embed a playable version of the video for Wierd Al Yankovic's 'Polkarama'.
Why is that relevant? Well, somewhere around about 1:46 or 1:47, I think, you get to see Mr. Yankovic's reverently irreverent send up of the Pussycat Doll's "Don't Cha" video. Naturally, I think that Mr. Yankovic's affectionate parody of the PCDs pales in comparison with my own. (And naturally that opinion places me in a distinct minority. Sigh).

Don't Cha Have Any Comments?
Chris A,
As always, thanks for stopping by and for contributing your artistic insights! Yep, I don't think Bouguereau endeared himself to the Impressionists... they got "relegated" to the Salon des Refuses back then, and he gets relegated to a different sort of Salon des Refuses now.
Sometimes I think these art rivalries are like Pro Wrestling-- all prearranged to keep the audience watching, LOL.
So are you going to go see the PCDs live???? If you do, please ask them to autograph my hub.... hee hee...
And they say rivalries and competition are good for both parties - but apparently not in art. One movement is always more prominent than their contemporary.
Pro Wrestling indeed! LOL But come to thing of it....
My friend's friend is part of the sound crew, who knows? :D

I've always liked William-Adolphe Bouguereau's traditional formalist style although his works and those of the other academicists(?) are largely overlooked due to the popularity of the impressionist movement - their "rival" movement.
What a fun hub! I'll sit in again to your next art history lesson! :D
PS I know the pussycat dolls, their coming over here, in Manila next month :D
