"Oh, good, it's you. Listen, it's getting late and I need to brush my teeth. Can you do me a favor? - Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!....
It is with these opening words, that the award winning author of New York Times best-selling children's book - Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! - Mo Willems, takes both the young and older reader on a short, hilarious ride
Little does the reader know just what he or she is getting into, when the pajama clad fellow so nicely requests their assistance with the main character - The Pigeon.
Much like art imitating life, it is the readers responsibility to get the very tired Pigeon (although the Pigeon adamantly refutes such an obvious claim) to bed at a reasonable time.
Similar to the young reader, the Pigeon tries everything it can think of to put off the inevitable.
Everything from requesting a glass of water, to simple bartering tactics such as "I'll go to bed early tomorrow night instead!"
The further the story develops, it is quite obvious how increasingly tired the Pigeon becomes.
Fighting yawn after yawn; yet not one to go down without a fight; the main character pulls out the big guns and uses sympathy to convince the reader to let it stay up.
"Pleeeeeaaaasssseee!," the Pigeon passionately begs. Only to...... Well, you'll have to read the book to find out what happens.
Once again, Mo Willems has found a unique way to entertain his readers by way of everyday language and simple illustrations.
Great for kids ages 3 to 7, this delightful book, "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!", is a fun read and would make a great addition to any child's library.
Who knew it could be so hard to put a pigeon to bed?
