Fighting yawn after yawn; yet not one to go down without a fight; the main character pulls out the big guns and uses sympathy to convince the reader to let it stay up.

"Pleeeeeaaaasssseee!," the Pigeon passionately begs. Only to...... Well, you'll have to read the book to find out what happens.
