in a period of time so long ago
upon reflection, was it only yesterday?
a chance meeting
a first date
a first embrace
a first kiss
leading to the inevitible
two bodies connecting in the most intimate way
producing from a love so strong, a family
a life full of dreams
a life full of promise
time goes on
we grow
we love
we fight
we stand united
we stand apart
only to find ourselves
despite everything
still growing
stronger
and still together
still whole
one day
in the blink of an eye
the world as I know it
falls apart
everything I've known
everything I've loved
is over
gone forever
never to be recovered
but alas, never forgotten
standing there with my eyes closed tight
praying it's just a nightmare
and I will awaken from this horror
but my eyes fly open
I look around, he is not there
he will never be there again
reality hits
the unthinkable has happened
my partner
the love of my life
my reason for being
stolen
ripped from my life
as though it never was
that it never happened
did I imagine it all?
was it only a young girl's dream?
no, it was real
it was meaningful
and it was to be forever
why him, 36 years young?
why me, 37 years young?
and still, 22 years later, wondering,
will there ever be an answer?

Thank you so much. There is an expression I love, that I have hanging in my room, and it says 'God gave us memories so we could gather flowers in the winter'. So, it is true, our loved ones never really die as long as they live in our minds and hearts.

I think it was God;s will that I chanced to read your hubs today. Our lives so similar in this respect that I cannot hold back the tears as I read. I guess as someone just said some of us are destined to share just moments here and eternity hereafter.

Isn't it interesting sometimes the path we find ourselves on? There's an expression I'm sure you've heard, that says when the student is ready the teacher will appear. I love that because it is true. Who really knows why we work where we do, meet the people we meet, share a chance conversation with someone. Life can be mysterious. I'm very glad you've enjoyed reading my hubs. I really enjoy writing them. If it helps one person, it's worth it.
