Don't look for an answer from a psychic
68The problem with psychic readings
Many people approach a psychic looking for a solution to some problem which is in their life. Perhaps they need confirmation over some decision, or maybe they need to be given fresh insight over some difficulty or other.
While it's only natural to seek assistance at certain times in ones life, there is actually very little that a psychic can provide in the way of useful assistance. In fact, I would put it even more strongly than that: there is a lot of harm that can unwittingly be done to a person who puts themself in the hands of a psychic.
Let me explain. I am far from cynical of humans who are able to grasp insights and knowledge that go beyond average perception. In fact, I think that this faculty is innate within everybody, but remains asleep for the most part. It is a useful tool on the path of life and existence.
So though I am a 'believer' in things that go beyond the illusion of the physical world, I am against the way many psychics do their readings. Or to put it another way, I am against the way many psychics put themselves in situations vis-a-vis a 'client'.
For example, I have seen many people latch onto words a psychic may have uttered during a reading, and base important decisions on the outcome of the session. Perhaps the psychic said something along the lines of: 'I have a very positive feeling about your move to Paris'. This will obviously have the effect of influencing the person into thinking that going to Paris is a good thing overall, especially if they're sitting on the fence about it. But this scenario is riddled with pitfalls.
For one, a psychic, no matter how reliable, isn't always right. Or maybe he/she is partly right, and though they do pick up on something positive about this person going to Paris, it isn't actually a major part of the move. Perhaps the move to Paris will be a distaster, but the psychic feels the trip to be positive because of certain positive aspects to it. Or maybe there are spirits in the room imbuing the reading with an electric sense of positivity, but which is sadly misconstrued by the psychic.
Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the psychic is irresponsible to even say 'I have a good feeling' or 'I have a bad feeling' about x, y, or z. That is influencing the mindset of the person who has come for the reading, when they are at their most open, and most open to suggestion. It is tantamount to playing into the person's notion that there is an answer 'out there', which will be delivered to them on a plate by someone else (in this case the psychic).
The different journeys we take through life, are there for us to decide ourselves and see what happens next, and learn from it. No-one can do this for us. The ability to listen quietly to what's going on, and base decisions on something true and sensible, is probably what counts most.
And if this is the case, why are psychics putting themselves out there, with the intention of helping people, when in fact, the whole relationship between a client and a psychic is mired even before the sessions starts? Are maybe psychics a bit too needy themselves, to be 'seen' as a helper and somehow more knowledgeable? Or maybe they need to make a bit of money?
Whichever it is, it's clear that maybe a psychic, who is in a strange position of authority, is not the best person to see to solve a problem. Anything that somehow takes a person's own autonomy away from them, is clearly the wrong way to go. And I'm arguing that the dynamic between a psychic and non-psychic, very precisely helps someone lose a sense of their own autonomy. Unless, of course, the psychic doesn't offer an opinion either way, in which case the person will go away disappointed! (but be one step closer to thinking and working things out for themself)
So what is the point ultimately of having a reading done with a psychic?
A more interesting question to ask is: if a psychic is 100% responsible and doesn't hint either way whether something is right or wrong, of whether this or that will happen, or whether this or that looks potentially good or bad, would they still be working as a psychic? Probably not.
It seems to me that people should choose their source of help very carefully, and only if it is of practical value.

Indeed. I get your point about these things being ultimately unverifiable... And even more strikingly, it appears to me, that in this reality, where resonance is constantly at work, a psychic consultation simply can't offer anything which is truly out of the loop...
To contradict my own hub on the subject, I think it's fair to say that, there are many even-minded people who consult psychics, and who won't hang on too much to anything any one psychic might say. But then, why bother going? If it's just to use as a sounding board, are there not better sounding boards to use? I hope I don't come across as slamming psychics per se, it's not my intention, but I like to think fully about the subject.
I very much enjoyed this HUB and the above comment that Paul made I might add. First I will say that I am a full time professional Psychic, and I agree with your hub. I consider what I offer is more in the area of knowledge, insight, support, motivational counseling etc. as I have much background in Psychology, Counseling and Therapy for years before I developed my psychic skills. I always tell clients that 'the future' is never set in stone due to free will, karma, destiny, etc. I do not want people to expect fast and easy YES or NO answers from me, do I dump him or her? Do I move? Should I take the job? If I sense a yes or no, I will offer it but always in the spirit of 'please see if this resonates to your own heart and logic.' And I admit that I do get calls where people say my predictions were right on etc. I am humbled for I do believe and have much experience with the vast powers of the mind and the subconscious mind or even the 'soul' if I can use such a term. I know from my experiences with hypnosis, deja-vu, automatic writing, psychic readings, that there is far more going on than our conscious minds are aware of. I often wake up in the wee hours of the morn, and will dictate pages or new poems that just pop out of my head. I do the same thing when I perform public channelings of ascended masters, angels, Et's. you name it. Am I really doing such things? I cannot nor do I need proof. My ground rule to the masters, guides etc. (if they do exist and I can channel them) is that you must uplift, empower, educate, inspire and make people laugh. Then I'm okay with what information comes through me. For as easily as it is for me to mentally soar the depths and heights of the soul, the universe etc, whether in mystical visions, poetry, psychic impressions, dreams, automatic writing, hypnosis, I really DO NOT CLAIM to know what is taking place. And I have always been a 'thinker' one NOT just to swallow what the masses or what some psychic tells me. I do believe that we really know so little about the powers of the human mind and or soul, or even the imagination. That a genuine psychic can tune in and pick up names, make contact with the so-called departed, and give information they had no way of knowing,is something I can accept, providing they are not trying to con the client or take advantage of their vulnerability or need for answers and just tell them what they think the client wants to hear. I have had some wonderful experiences with some psychics who came up with names of people in my life, living and dead. I have had several from all over the country speak of me of my past lives in France. Psychics who I had never met or spoken to. The reading about the tortured life as a model and painter in Paris in the last life blew me away because I learned Fluent French in college and received a scholarship to study in France. I also picked up German, Spanish and Italy. The psychic talked about past lives in Italy involving Opera. there is no way she could have known I was a trained opera singer as I'm not known. The part about the tortured life in Paris, resonated to the core of my soul, because I have been a tortured artist for years who is FINALLY, BECOMING UNTORTURED. I have no proof of past lives nor need it. The readings did help me so I accept that past lives could exist. I have read of cases where people were able to release phobias, fears, even heal their bodies through hypnosis and going back to so-called past lives that they spoke of while under. So we just dont' know what all is out there or IN THERE, I should say. Some Shakespeare quote about about there are more things in Heaven and earth than we know," comes to mind. So many psychics claim to have 'answers.' I do not. I do claim to have intuitive abilities and insight and information, encouragement to offer. That is due to having been through so much myself. Years in therapy. Much inner soul work, Reading of books. Study. You name it. And yes, the psychic ability to pick up things was been strong for years. I consider myself more of an advisor who truly cares deeply about people and my sole desire is to empower, uplift, educate and give them hope just as hope was given to me by an angelic visitation I claim to have had in my back yard at the age of 13 which helped set me on the spiritual path. Was it not real? Was it an imaginary fabrication of a lonely abused child? I do not think so. But it does not matter. The angel gave me hope. She told me I would leave the horrible home, go to college and help many people. That message was real enough and changed my life. So that is my philosophy about such things. What is our intention? So, thanks, for reading this, if you ever get to it and I look forward to more of your hubs. Feel free to check out any of mine.

Thanks for your comment. It's great to hear another perspective on the subject... I like to chew over subjects in different ways. I'm actually by all means not against psychic consultations (after all, some encounters just happen), but I suppose I have also encountered some folks who might be better off steering away from such things... somehow dramatising their life through the means of psychic information, which by it's nature, is an exciting thing, and thus, a displacement from a collected self!
Very wise words. Yes, there are the PSYCHIC JUNKIES who want to call their psychic for advice on everything. I do not go there. We are responsible for our own life, our choices, OUR DESTINY. I consider myself a coach, motivator, mentor, writer, and when I do get "PRECISE PSYCHIC INFO" I am humbled in wonder at the synchroncities and wonders of the mind. I think everybody is a little psychic. We think of someone and the phone rings, or we get an email or text message etc. I think of my granny some years ago. Mom told me she said, MOM, I'm going to take you to dinner tonight. Granny said, Oh, thank you, but not tonight. BILLY is going to call. Turned out that UNCLE BILLY DID CALL from Germany as he was in the army and Granny did not expect that call from a letter etc. She just 'knew it.' I love such stories and they confirm my belief that there is 'so much more' going on than we realize, and we are maybe somehow 'all' very connected.
You should write a book...You are very intelligent with a great mind...Mediocrity does not suit well with me, and some psychics can be very cocky, selfish, manipulative etc. But then again such exists is all fields, eh, does it not? My true heart's desire is to be a beacon of light and to inspire and spread hope to those I come into contact with.

Your points are very well taken. I would go even further and speculate that the very notion that there is only ONE "right" decision for any situation is unverifiable. There certainly are "reasonable" decisions, but whether they will turn out to be "right" depends upon which set of outcomes we look at, over which time frame, and using what particular set of values to measure it by. All three of these are moving targets!
It is questionable how often any outcome will be "purely good" or "purely bad." And there is no way to go back and see what the outcomes would have been if a different fork in the road had been taken. As the movies "Run Lola Run" and "The Butterfly Effect" attempt to demonstrate, an unpredictable chance encounter, a moment's change in timing, a seemingly random detail, can completely change the significance and outcome of an otherwise seemingly reasonable and reasoned decision.
