It's all about the Bayes

Ronald H. Bayes, began teaching creative writing at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in 1968. Bayes founded the St. Andrews Review and the St. Andrews Press, a magazine and small press dedicated to publishing both established and emerging writers, primarily poets, and created the St. Andrews Writers Forum. He published more than 16 poetry books and wrote reviews, poems, short stories, and  plays. HIs selection of also documents Bayes's career as writer, editor, and College Professor.

Every Thursday night for the last forty years, Dr. Bayes holds a writers forum for the students and community. It is relatively small so we can endulge in all of Dr. Bayes writing and literature. He has so much enthusiam for young emerging writers and has published several chap books for students and others through the Saint Andrews Press.

Dr. Bayes and I after the Writers Forum

Books and Awards

Among his many honors are the North Carolina Award for Literature, the Roanoke-Chowan Prize for Poetry, North Carolina Writers’ Network Lifetime Achievement Award, now named in his honor and the North Carolina Writers’ Conference Award.

Some of Dr. Bayes work includes: The Casket Maker, Guises-A Chain Song for the muse, Beast in View which was nominated for a Pulitzers in 1985, A Gift of Life, Purpoise, Tokyo Annex, King of August and Fram.

Dr. Bayes is an avid lover of Ezra Pound. Pound has left an imprint on his psyche, for he thrives to keep his spirit alive, he also loves TS Elliott, which I discovered at the Writers Forum.

He has made Thursday Night the night I look forward to for the last three years. There are few words that describe the genius of creativity sitting beside me.

I agree with this article, Ron Bayes = awesome. I had the pleasure of having breakfast and lunch with him as well as recording a reading and interview with him. I'll be sure to come back and post the video link once I have it up. Ron Bayes is definitely an inspiration.
