The chemical that makes red wine red: Resveratrol
The chemical that makes red wine red: Resveratrol

Dr. Oz talked about Resveratrol on several TV-Shows, such as "Good Morning America" and "The Oprah Winfrey Show". He believes that this might help us to live longer when we found out how it works. One thing we already know is that it activates a gene called sirtuin, which basically makes your body really efficient like a calorie-restrictive diet.

Calorie-restriction makes you live longer. Dr. Oz says if you can cut your daily calories by just 15% you will live longer (estimate extra 30 years).

The French Paradox claims that the French have a lower rate of heart diseases because they are consuming so much red wine. That's how scientists found out about Resveratrol. Dr. David Sinclair found the chemical in red wine and grapes (and many other foods). By now GlaxSmith KLine bought the company of discoverer Sinclair and is selling Resveratrol supplements all over the world. The Resveratrol is extracted from Japanese Knotweed, a weed that is basically growing everywhere.

Red wine is red because of a chemical in it. You guessed right, it is Resveratrol. Dr. Oz now added the red wine pill Resveratrol to his Ultimate Anti-Aging Checklist, which you can find on Oprah's website. Other people aside from Dr. Oz, like Ray Kurzweil are already taking 250mg of Resveratrol per day to stay healthy and young, because some believe it is only a matter of decades until we can stop aging completely. If you want to live past 100 is another question.

There are currently many clinical trials going on that will helps us to find out more about Resveratrol. If Dr. Oz is right we will soon all be taking a pill to live past 100. However, many people take Resveratrol not to stay young, but to stay healthy. Doctor Oz said it is a great anti-oxidant. A anti-oxidant basically helps you to prevent many diseases, it prevents the process of oxidation inside our body. Resveratrol can also prevent that free radical destroy our healthy cells and stimulate cancer growth, but we will first have to wait until they find out more about the chemical before we can truly believe in this.
