The father of the bride toast is one of the most highly-anticipated and important speeches of your daughter's big wedding day. You are, in essence, "letting go" of your little girl, releasing her into the arms of her husband. This is a pivotal moment in the life of any father.

Naturally, you want your speech to accurately convey your true emotions when it comes to this life-changing event. But how can you put such powerful and indescribable feelings into words? And how can you make sure that your speech is coherent, to the point, and entertaining?

Indeed, these are the biggest challenges when it comes to writing a father of the bride toast.

What you need to do first is organize your thoughts. How do you feel about your little girl getting married? What is the most dominating emotion? Write out a list of all your feelings, even if some of them include "fear" or "uncertainty".

Next, figure out which thoughts and emotions on that list would be the most powerful to include in your speech. Elaborate on them and make them into anecdotes.

Now you need to think of a few memories about your daughter that have always stood out in your mind. Write these down and embellish them with interesting details and a few one-liners. Try to make them into short stories that end on a positive note.

Another good idea is to think of some of the many mistakes you have made and lessons you have learned in your own marriage. Without getting too personal, include these in your father of the bride toast, and use them to offer some much-needed advice and guidance to the new bride and groom.

Finally, take a good look at all of your notes. Figure out what you think would be the best and most entertaining things to include in your father of the bride toast, and cut out the rest. You don't want your speech to go on for too long, so make sure that it's short and to the point.
