At
the opening chapter, we are witness to Atani's (aka Dragon) destruction
of Coll's Ridge and the family of thieves and bandits residing there.
Only a handful of survivors - among them, "The Bastard" Treion,
Dragon's paternal 1/2 brother and Treion's 1/2 sister Maia, although
they presume each other dead. Atani continues to command the loyalty of
his people while continuing to fight the stigmatism of his father's
madness.
Atani finds Maia living in her mother's old cottage,
and as things proceed slowly, they fall in love. She knows and loves
him as him and as Dragon. Meanwhile, Treion is captured and ends up
at Dragon Keep with Atani. He is eventually reunited with his sister
and pledges fidelity to Atani after Atani rescues him and saves his
life. The surprise at the end will keep you reading, although, in a
way, it is expected.
Lynn definitely captivated me with her
characters and depictions of a far off land. I can hardly wait to get
my hands on "Dragon's" other stories. It is definitely a breath of
fresh air when it comes to a story about dragon's and fantasy, as so
many are retelling stories in different ways. It also shows that deep
down, all of us have a dragon within us, most times rearing it's head
when we are angered. This is a definite must read for any dragon lover
out there.
