One of the latest trends in cardigans is the draped cardigan.  Even better is a draped cashmere cardigan that you can wear for the winter.  So, what are the benefits and how do you wear one?  I’ve had mine for a while so let me share with you all that I’ve learned about buying one, wearing one, and the benefits of having one.

Buying a Draped Cardigan

These days, many brands are making the draped cardigan.  When you go shopping for one, first, think about the material that you want.  If you are planning to wear it during warmer weather, then maybe you want a cotton one.  However, for the winter, you will definitely want to consider a cashmere cardigan.  Many designers are now using the thinner cashmere material to make their draped cardigans.  This allows the cardigan to drape better and hug your body a bit better.  One of the most important things when looking for a draped cardigan is to look at where the cardigan falls in front and in back.  In back, the cardigan should fall at or above your waist.  If it cuts too long, then it can look overwhelming on anyone.  In the front, it should fall between your thighs and your knees.  If you are a taller person, then it can fall below your mid-thigh. However, if you are shorter, then do not let it fall below your mid-thigh, or you will look to short.

Cashmere Cardigan Benefits

Before I talk about the benefits of a draped cardigan, let me first let you know about the benefits of a cashmere cardigan. Cashmere is a very warm material. Having a cashmere cardigan allows you to easily carry it around in the winter, but not have something very bulky like a wool coat that you cannot carry in your bag. Thin cashmere hugs your body and is very flattering while still keeping you warm. It won’t look like those bulky winter sweaters that are very unflattering to the body and add up to 5 pounds on your silhouette.

Draped Cardigan Benefits

There are many benefits of the draped style.  First, it allows people to hide any tummy fat since the drape goes in front.  It can be a very flattering style since it does not hug your body in front, but instead, is just tight on your arms and back.  Therefore, you can still have a smooth silhouette from behind, but have a more looser silhouette in front.  The draped style allows you to look thinner and also look more stylish than wearing a regular cardigan.  Other benefits include being able to wear it differently from a regular cardigan and being able to easily throw it on over any t-shirt, tank or thin long sleeve shirt without worrying that it might not match.  Since it is draped, it will mostly cover the entire shirt underneath so the color doesn’t have to match as well as a traditional cardigan.

How to Wear a Draped Cardigan

You can wear your draped cardigan with lots of things. If it is a cashmere cardigan, wear it with a thin tank and black leggings with boots or flats. Try not to wear it over a dress or skirt unless you are very tall and the dress or skirt is very short. Otherwise, it will overwhelm your entire body. You can also tie it on the side or in front of your body. Be careful when tying since it is a much tighter look and can accentuate the stomach. A great way to wear it is over boot cut jeans or pants. Finally, for a more casual look, wear it over your sweats to dress them up.
