Drawing A Chainsaw Holding Freak

For years as a kid I used to draw some random nutters holding chainsaws and become obsessed with getting them right, I drew them quite alot and it's a shame that I haven't got all of my old drawings anymore(I think my mum threw them out, as she was sure I was drawing evil stuff!)

When I first saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre I must have just wanted to draw someone like that, not a very nice peson in reality, but in my own mind of monsters and all that horror stuff, it was the perfect inspiration to draw a chainsaw weilding maniac whatever they looked like and besides I liked in the Evil Dead 2 when Bruce Cambells character Ash fixes a chainsaw to the stump of his arm after his hand turned possessed and he had to chop it off(such a classic!)

Perhaps it was the chainsaw itself, the design of the blade of the saw looks almost like a sword(something else that I love to draw!)

I liked the way the above drawing came together because I almost abandoned it in favour of a thinner character holding a chainsaw, but I liked how the Chainsaw looks like it's coming out at you here and the fat mass of the character looks like there is movement as the character leaps forward.

So the drawing above I captured alot of movement in the original drawing and so when it came to inking the piece, it looked great and I was happy inking it from the initial sketch, I'll have a video up soon of this drawing and the steps I took to get it there.

Wayne, this ROCKS! I remember mentioning chainsaw wielding maniacs in one of my comments, now you've done him! He rules. That is so vivid and gorgeous! Wonderful horror sketch. You are more than ready to do a lively graphic novel. I know it'll have grand antagonists -- and maybe chainsaw heroes too, considering Ash!

Yeah I was happy with the way this one turned out and the character just might appear again in a graphic novel.

I have another idea for a character who has arms and legs as chainsaws... which could be quite cool!

Ah, that's awesome and right up my ally. Unfortunately my gruesome, horror pieces are too...gross I think for most sites.

I suck at drawing male anatomy, thin or tubby, but this is lovely. The motion is great as is the shading, an that chainsaw blade!

Nice article and it was good reading how YOU came up with the concept and the thoughts behind it....not just a "How to Piece." I always like getting the scoop behind works.
