More Skull Art Drawing Analysis

Drawing skulls is one of my hobbies together with drawing demons, in fact any monsters, demons and skulls I obsess over drawing at least once a day, but for me skulls are the easiest to draw, as you can draw them to fit in with any scene, tattoo or just for the fun of it moment!

But the "why" of drawing skulls is something of a mystery to me, it is something that I am drawn to in life, not sure why, but I am. Skulls are as much of an icon of death than anything else and the darkness that they represent, so drawing and creating dark things seems fantastic to me and also fascinating for the possibilities of real monsters and creatures that exist between our worlds in shadow and quite possibly flame.

There was a time many years back that stories were told of a skull that had magical properties, whoever held the skull and looked into it's black vacant eye sockets would become possessed by the undead spirit of a powerful god who would bestow the person with incredible powers but only for a short time as the skull would suck the life out of the host and claim their soul for all eternity...which was nice!

Skulls have probably been many a prop in legends and myths that they have become symbolic of death and power, even more the iconic nature of skull images and pictures usually instill some kind of warning of death or potential danger, they have been used to create fear by pirates of the past with the skull and crossbones black flags on their pirate ships.

Today, Skull art as tattoos is very popular and is much sought after, particularly as a customized tattoo, that no on else has, an original skull design that either embellishes the tribal tattoo traditions or abandons it in favour of just pure concept!

Also, comics and other graphic literature, uses skull art as story and plot points and just highly stylized imagery to look good and identify and relate the meaning of skulls to the viewer.

Skull drawing is here to stay, with more and more fantasy artists using skulls in their drawings on armour, swords and shields and various sculptured building imaginations.
