Interpreting the Meaning of Dreams

Dreams are fascinating things, but they can also be confusing and hard to understand, which is why I love the dream interpretation software that I downloaded and started using not long ago, and why I decided to write an article about for hubpages.

Exploring the persnoal inner world of  dreams and learning about the hidden meanings that they convey can be not only an amusing and interesting pastime, but it can also  be a rewarding journey of personal development and even spiritual growth. If done properly it can lead you to a deeper understanding of yourself and your own inner nature, and help you on your path of personal and spiritual growth and self-mastery,  whatever your beliefs may be. Your dreams can help you to work through emotional problems that you might not even realise that you had, and make you healthier, happier and more successful in life than you have ever been before.

Some people approach dreaming from a purely psychological perspective - as the sub-conscious minds way of communicating with our ego and working through what has happened and feelings that trouble or excite us. For others there is a belief that dreams are a doorway through which we can enjoy some level of communication with the deeper spiritual realities of life - a belief which can be found in one form or another in almost all of the worlds religions. But whatever your personal attitude is, the first step in exploring this inner world is to learn how to interpret the meaning of the various events, people, places and symbols that crop up in your dreams.

Most people who want to do this will go about it in the same way. They will buy themselves a book on dream interpretation which comes with long lists of the main symbols and an explanation of their meanings. They will then write down what they remember of the dream that they have just come out of inthe morning, on a notepad by the bed or in some kind of dream journal, and then use this book to look up all of the main symbols and events to find out what they mean.

This realy can be a good place to start, and I have had some interesting experiences myself doing it this way, but there are a couple of major problems which prevent it from being the ideal way to go. The main problem that I found is that the meanings of the various symbols listed in these books are not objective - what I mean by this is that they do not have the same meaning in all dreams and to all people, but rather have a different significance depending on the lifestyle, personality and past experiences of the dreamer, and on the general characer of that particular dream. This introduces quite a high degree of inaccuracy to any interpretation taken directly from a book in this way.

This is where dream interpretation software can really help you to get a more detailed and accurate account. A good software program will include an editable dictionary of symbols rather than a fixed list like you would get in a book, which will allow you to develop a more personalized approach. You do this by making alterations and additions as you progress and learn, as well as making notes alongside each entry about interesting combinations

Often they will include a diary for you to record your dreams, and then search back over them. This can be very helpful indeed in recognizing patterns and recurring motifs, as well as in honing the definitions for the most commonly occurring symbols, because you can write a note next to an entry in the dream dictionary which links to siginificant or unexplained dreams in which that particular symbol has cropped up before.

But in my humble personal opinion the best thing about this kind of software is that you can  download it for the same price, or even less, than you would pay for a regular book, so you are effectively getting more stuff for less money! If you are interesting in downloading software directly onto your computer from the internet then I would recommend you go here.
