Hollywood classics have contributed a number of memorable images to generations of people. At Halloween, we take advantage of these impressive figures, dress like then, act as them, and enjoy the fun.

The Wizard of Oz (1939) is an unfailing movie, which most of us have seen and still kept in mind.

The fairy tale takes place in Kansas. Dorothy Gale, played by Judy Garland, is a preteen girl living on a farm with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. She dreams of going over the rainbow.

One day, Dorothy and her dog Toto are blown away in her house by a tornado. They touch down finally in the wonderful Land of Oz, ruled by the Wizard of Oz, but the house accidentally killed the Wicked Witch of the East, whose sister The Wicked Witch of the West determines to revenge on Dorothy.

Fortunately, Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, sends Dorothy the dead witch’s enchanted R1uby Slippers that could keep her safe. Glinda also tells Dorothy if she wants to return home, she should get the help of the Wizard of Oz, who lives in the Emerald City.

On the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, Dorothy comes across the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. They also seek the help of the Wizard of Oz, and want to get a brain, a heart, and courage separately.

With the help of Glinda and friends, Dorothy overcomes the Wicket Witch of the West, and arrives at the Emerald City. Glinda finally tells Dorothy that she always has the power to return home as long as she believes it.

Dorothy taps her heels together three times, and repeats the spell, “There’s no place like home”, so the enchanted Ruby Slippers bring her and Toto back to home.

Dorthy is a bright, courageous and pure-hearted girl. She always sees everything in good light, and even shows mercy to her enemy. Through her story, we get three lessons: First, be brave and kind. Second, before you achieve something you must believe in it first. Third, your own home is the warmest place in the world.

In the film, Dorothy wears a blue gingham dress and a white top with puff sleeves. She looks so lovely! Every girl loves to dress up as Dorothy, even adult women. Everybody loves Dorothy's melodious song, Over The Rainbow.
